With all of this negativity and with all that is happening I thought I will start a thread to lighten the mood around here. Positivity only in this thread please. I will start with a classic song. Give a whistle everyone!
There is one big positive. With the decline in human activity nature is coming back. When I was in Wuhan in 2014 there was always a greyish brown haze over the cities, it made for great sunsets, but not good for respiratory health. From what I've been hearing now there are clear blue skies there. My mom in Singapore sent me some pictures of the otters really enjoying themselves now that there aren't so many people around. A decline of industry and travel for a few months while devastating economically for humans it might be a very needed respite for the natural world.
Probably see a decline in emissions like the 2008 global crisis but with a greater reduction of emissions. Just think about how less air travel there is and the amount of people on the road.
This might be too morbid for this thread , but there’s a decent possibility that if you and your family make it through the next half year alive that you will be better off in the long run. this is not a Black Plague level event , but economically speaking ... those that were alive after the plague enjoyed cheaper property . It doesn’t make up for grieving and loss , but it’s at least a silver lining . I think the US has a pretty good track record of coming together during catastrophic events like this, Regardless of what our leaders do . I think come out of this valuing human contact and general respect and interaction a lot more . It could move the culture in a positive direction .
We're gonna see a ton of technological advances during this period that will usher in a new age of medical care...at least I hope.
Positive .... I've got plenty of time to make stuff. My latest project - a walnut and oak segmented vase , its 14 layers of rings .... took a week to complete as each layer had to be turned individually.
Except here, Trump has essentially suspended the EPA rules on pollution. But on the bright side, people are spending more time on the internet.....oh, er, people are spending more times on hobbies they might have left behind
Honestly, this period will accelerate the trend toward flexible work-from-anywhere arrangements as companies who are forced to make the investments and changes needed to have their employees telecommute now will find it useful to just keep the capability. I think the work place will be transformed for the better long term. Doubt it's the end of the office, but probably a big benefit in some workers' ability to choose how they want to work.
