I have a close relative who is the head of a public health organization. He thinks that the radical reactions to this virus are hugely exaggerated. He said that many tests for the flu currently are positive for H1N1. Remember that pandemic? He said that the coronavirus is from the family of viruses that cause the common cold. It is just a bit more virulent. He thinks warmer weather will affect the virus negatively. Also, it doesn't seem to affect children and the death rate among the elderly is very low, like 3%. He has been through the other pandemics, even ebola, but has never seen a public reaction like this. He thinks the NBA and the NCAA have lost their minds.
Tell him he is r****ded and wrong. Expect federal restriction of movement and quarantine within few days.
Strange response. Public health actions are based on probabilities. That has nothing to do with "disrespecting" the elderly.
H1N1 was responsible for the Spanish Flu that killed 20-50 million people worldwide. The more recent H1N1 in 2009 was not as contagious as coronavirus - and still infected about 1 billion people - and had a fatality rate of 0.01-0.08% - a tiny fraction of corona's estimated 1-2%. If your friend is really the head of a public health organization, I feel sorry for whatever population they serve if he/she really thinks the two are similar at all. We may be overreacting, but comparing to much less dangerous viruses is not really a demonstration of that.
The 2009 version of H1N1 killed around 600,000 people worldwide, mostly younger. Wasn't exactly a walk in the park. It is too early to conclude that corona is more virulent. Certainly different. The point is, we have been down this road before, but the reaction has never been so extreme. We are on the verge of shutting down daily activities. Is that really warranted? I wish clutch fans responses would focus on the subject rather insult sources which is childish. The population served by my relative adore him. He is brilliant and highly trained. Disagreeing with his conclusions is understandable, but you didn't have to insult his competence.
This is a good and informative show. Imma post it here just for people who want to watch it. There was also another video about the wet markets and one about a guy who had corona and is telling his experience and what symptoms he went thru. If u guys want me to post them Ill gladly do it. The more informed we are the better.
This guy... Maybe we don't want to kill 600,000 this time around... Are you upset you are missing some basketball games? Is that the issue?
When you have entire countries (first world developed countries like Italy) locking down for fear of spread, it seems a bit odd to say that two very small populations of people like the NBA and NCAA being suspended, are losing their minds. Worst case scenario, the season is canceled. Best case scenario, the NBA spends a month or however long to plan safety. Don't complain about people calling out your relative when you, yourself, are presenting his thoughts so matter-of-factly.
