That second proposal is similar to something I proposed a week or two ago. It did involve Minnesota and Boston and we get Covington and Theis. Someone mentioned Daniel Theis being a 6'8" center, and I replied, Hmn, OK, well, Kanter makes the same money, even if he's more offense than defense, so why not switch'em?

Get under the luxury tax by 5 cents and Tilman might even sign off on a deal.

Tried that second trade and it didn’t work. Money wasn’t right. Had to throw Green in to the Rockets as well.

Sending out Capela and picks (yes, even one 1st rounder) for Covington makes no sense imo. That's getting completely owned, and for a 29 years old role player.

Don't think its just your opinion... or anyone's opinion.

Capela for Covington would be dumb af.

Unless you wound up getting a decent center back as part of the overall deal. Of course, D'Antoni would still insist on stapling Hartenstein to the bench.

Wouldn't do it without getting a legit center replacement or an additional wing along with RoCo. Definitely don't want a 6'8 center.

Two things are a must for our success. We keep our picks at the trade deadline and Gordon has a career year (more 50 point games please). We need to go shopping this offseason when we can get a good return not before out of desperation.

    This.

Then obviously, getting a center who can replace Capela would be a must, and aside that i'm not as sure as others around here that would be so easy, that trade proposals is still super Minny and Boston oriented imo, Minnie shouldn't get three 1st rounders for Covingon...lol, really, three 1st rounders for Covington...they got less by moving Jimmy Butler.

    Some related questions @BimaThug
    * Is there a trade exception and reminder if that can be traded with another asset?

    * excluding Harden and Russ then, and have to exclude EG and Clemons, and let's just assume Rivers and Green are excluded cause they won't agree, what is the maximum amount of contracts the Rockets can cobble together is we also assume Capela and Tucker aren't being traded? Obviously we can add Tucker and/or Capela from there? In short, I'm thinking what is the maximum contract value we can get back without losing a "key" piece?

Morey is very active in Twitter. He usually does this when he’s doing negotiations.

The Rockets currently have five Traded Player Exceptions (TPEs), none larger than $3.6M. They CANNOT be combined with player salary or other TPEs for salary matching purposes in trades.

As for adding salaries, figure that someone like Robert Covington ($11.3M) is about as large a single salary as the Rockets could trade for. Even then, it'd take 4 players (including House) to make it happen, which creates roster spot issues for the other team. Perhaps the Rockets could use their TPEs to take back additional small salaried player if necessary.

This is all hypothetical. In all likelihood, the Rockets will only make a small trade, most likely to duck/mitigate the tax.

What do you mean, FINALLY??? I've been saying this for several months.

While I'm not nearly as negative as you (and many others) are about Fertitta, I am certainly skeptical of his willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Assuming Nene were 'traded' using some of remaining funds to facilitate then how large an amount could be paid to a buy-out and keep Rox < lux cap?

    Thanks.

in previous months i seem to recall you saying it was a possibility to be able to duck the tax, while as of late you've treated it as the most likely scenario.

If the Rockets trade Nene (and cash) for no salary in return, they should be far enough below the tax to sign a buyout guy to a prorated vet minimum deal later in February and still maybe have enough left over to sign another developmental guy in April. Perhaps convert Frazier to an NBA contract?

Thoughts on Jrue Holiday as a target from the Pels? Would have to commit to Harty as your starting C and give up Capela, McLemore, Thabo and Nene. But you are adding another dog on D and someone with a playoff resume to compliment Harden and Russ.

Capela for Covington and a pick in a three way with Boston at the deadline. Big man as well maybe Williams maybe Jordan Bell. Kanter maybe, Nothing crazy.

E Gordon for Myles Turner this summer.

is that team not a real contender?
