The NBA is not obligated to change game outcomes because of mistakes in administering the rules in a given game. They acknowledged the error and claimed that the refs in charge of the game were disciplined. The effect of this mistake is no different than a typical officiating error that happens all the time that wrongly disadvantages a team by 2 points in the middle of game play. The mistake in this case was not just a missed call but a mistake in the video review process. The latter is far more egregious, hence the disciplining of the refs, but a requisite replay or a change in the score does not follow from that. Let's take an example from another game involving the Spurs. Remember that game in which Duncan was ejected for laughing on the bench? The Spurs were up 6 points towards the end of the third quarter when that ejection took place. They lose their best player for the rest of the game, lose their lead in the fourth quarter, and ultimately lose the game by 5 points. That ejection impacted the rest of the game. The NBA suspended Joey Crawford, admitting Duncan never should have been ejected. But there was no game protest. The legitimacy of the game outcome was sullied, yes, but no one involved felt it warranted a do-over. The technical foul shot that Dallas made after Duncan got that second technical was not taken off the score sheet either.
The effect of a given player being in or out of a game is hypothetical and indirect. It is impossible to prove. A made 2 point basket not being counted has a direct, quantifiable impact on the game. In this case, it represented the final margin of victory for the Spurs.
It is the same crap that is pulled in Washington. You are either part of the exclusive club and question nothing or you are an outsider that will be ridiculed and marginalized into non existence. Colangelo can have multiple jobs handed to him by the NBA front office by kissing ass. Sam Hinkie builds a contender and the league office and their media suck asses ridicule and black ball him. The same will happen to Morey. There won’t be another NBA job for him...
Fall from 2 seed to the 6 seed and draw the Clippers in round 1 and then lose in 7 games. Post game while MDA is being asked why we lost in overtime, everyone will see Tillman having security empty MDA’s office and change the keys.
The effect of the technical foul shot awarded to the Mavs was not hypothetical. As for final margin at the end of regulation, how different that would have been without the officiating error is actually hypothetical in both scenarios.
If we're being objective, the decision was fair. I wish the NBA would have allowed the Rockets and Spurs to replay the game, but the Rockets choked regardless.
Don't worry about that - I hope the next coach likes "open plan" seating, it will save a lot of money facilitate openness and collaboration.
Maybe. I don't know the exact numbers, but if you're down 3 possessions with a minute and a half left and you're on defense, you already have a slim chance of coming back. Not insurmountable, of course, but slim. Less than 10%, I'd guess. Any change in the score at a given point in the game can affect what happens in subsequent possessions. I don't understand your final question, or in general the point you're making, so yes I suppose I am missing the forest.
Kings already trolling the Rockets on Twitter - "Protest That." Sometimes it almost feels good to be so hated that everyone else just makes a mockery of themselves. Flat earthers... Ancient aliens... NBA fans. When truth becomes stranger than fiction and fiction becomes popular truth. The Rockets aren't the first team to protest a game, and had the most valid reason possible. The league shouldn't have a protest system if it doesn't have a solution for its own game-changing mistakes other than "do better than us".
I just cant stand that the morons at ESPN are still using this headline. "Rockets' protest of Harden missed dunk denied" For gods sake he MADE the damn basket and the GD NBA admitted they fuucked up. How about "Rockets protest of Harden dunk not counted denied" The fuucking lack of journalistic intergrity (or bias) is mind-numbing
Really now? How fuucking childish. It was warranted to protest to at LEAST hold the shiit pile refs ACCOUNTABLE. ANY team that got hosed wouldve and shouldve protested it on principle alone.
In a life and death situation getting robbed 20 bucks is nothing... 200 is nothing. Context matters and this can't be compared to a regular season game as it is not about life and death. Unless he pulled a water pistol.
