I guess Rockets were offering a Nene type deal to him and he wasn't having it. I don't blame him one bit. Sometimes is nice to have stability.
Morey would not "reneg" on an offer....... but #ShutUpAndListen sure would. When I ask around about TF I mostly get slight smiles and eye rolling.
At the end of the day, we still have his bird rights and can offer substantially more than any other relevant NBA team. Whether we're willing to do that is another question. Maybe I'm being ignorant/hopelessly optimistic, but I think he may end up re-negotiating once he sees what (little) else is out there. FWIW, I understand him not wanting to sign on to be a trade pawn, though I assume he would be well-compensated in order to take on that role.
This sucks. I really thought we would have him and Nene’s contract to trade for a big time player in January. Not the end of the world. We do not know the details. But yeah, sucks that we won’t have much trade chips and did waste the pick.
He was only going to be used as a trade chip anyways. Losing that and giving up a 1st round pick to acquire him to dump salary are the real stories here. I'm disappointed that we can't trade him, not that we couldn't keep him! He wasn't worth more than the minimum to us at this point. Bench warmer and he never quite looked comfortable on the floor with what was expected of him in his role.
so basically he is going overseas? Maybe he did have some minimum offers from other teams that he declined to wait for Til-TS to reneg? Sad waste of assets but this ins't the only time that has happened under Tilly
I believe he was hurt by Memphis not wanting to do business without getting a 1st round pick. He would've gotten paid if that scenario had played out differently. That is the only way the Rockets were offering him more money than the minimum.
I'm curious about what offer the Rockets supposedly reneged on. I'm also curious why a guy who's earned 'only' 47 million his whole career, would tell the Rockets to take a hike if they tried to offer him a guaranteed deal for a large fraction of those total career earnings. Like any other team is falling over itself to give Iman Shumpert 10 million bucks or more this year. My guess as to what happened is the Rockets tried to low-ball----again----with the possibility he'd be traded too, and Shumpert said, no thanks, he could get chump change anywhere. What a waste of an asset. But hey, the Rockets are all in this year!
Irony, considering the monumental b****ing and moaning TF did last year about having a deal be cancelled by the other team at the last minute.
I remain baffled by the love/longing for Shumpert. He was mediocre in nearly every aspect of the game. The mistake was the deal we made to acquire him.
fwiw: I thought last year you had some of the best insight of your scouting career, first to spot how Shump seemed in need to play 1on1 defense only, possibly being incapable of understanding team defensive schemes. After you first posted that observation, I was unable to look at Shump's defense the same again.
It was a dumb move getting him and now you have nothing to show for it except giving up a pick to even get the guy!
Shump was an MDA and Morey guy, but was definitely not a Bzdelik guy. Even with Bzdelik gone, a lot of his defense will be retained.
