Stroman and Boyd appear to be No. 2 starters which I'd count as ToR. Marco Gonzales is not one of my favs.

The Diamondbacks are becoming more interested in trading Zach Greinke and are willing to pay down his salary.

He is under control for 2.5 years and the Diamondbacks have so far said they would pay down at least $25 million of the $80 million he is owed but would pay down even more if the prospect value increased.

With the Astros guaranteed to lose Cole this winter, a deal for Greinke may make the most sense.

The Astros are also not on his list he can block.

If the Astros could get the Diamondbacks to pay half of the $80 million he is owed, they could make a very good offer for him and not break their system. Not to mention that a playoff rotation of: Verlander/Cole/Greinke/Miley would be the best in baseball.

Grienke has always been one of my favorite pitcher since his KC days

If that's the case, then the prospect acquisition cost doesn't seem like it would be detrimental to acquire both Greinke and a few months of Mad Bum.

    Verlander/Cole/Greinke/Mad Bum

And our farm system would still have Tucker and Whitley. Damn.

Thor is having a bad year, so he is in a sell low situation. If the Mets are smart, they hang onto Thor until it becomes a sell high situation.

Cole will be going to the highest bidder, which is very likely not the Astros.

That would be awesome. Greinke and $40M for Bukauskas, Abreu, Fisher, and Toro sounds fair to me.

There are already discussions of him getting 7 years for over $200,000,000.

There is no way the Astros can match that financially.

The Astros would be very foolish to sink $30,000,000 a year on a starting pitcher.

They need to find guys like Miley (sign them to more than 1 year deals!) and Charlie Morton and then make trades for guys like Verlander or Greinke.

Also having players like Whitley and Abreu pan out is very important.

I think that is fair as well.

Hypothetically could expand the trade to include Archie Bradley.

If I am the Diamondbacks I am happy with that return.

Torro and Abreu have a chance of being well above average regulars and important positions. Fisher also can likely be a useful starter for a rebuild.

The Astros are also at an advantage with Greinke because NY and BOS and MINN are all on his no trade list. The Cubs and Astros are supposedly not.

I would love this; thus, this trade is delusional ;)

I would not feel comfortable with either Marcus Stroman or Matthew Boyd as my second-best starter on a championship-contending team. I’d feel like I’m at a disadvantage against most teams I would face in the postseason. I don’t even consider them to be upgrades on Wade Miley as the Astros’ current third starter in the playoffs. That said, if the cost was right, I’d take them to add much needed depth to the starting rotation.

Agreed. But if the Mets really want to deal him now, the Astros should be interested. I can easily see Strom fixing him.

Moving goal posts? No. 2 starter on playoff team is much more exclusive than No. 2 starters or ToR starters. Those two aren't aces. They probably aren't the best No 2 starters. They might not be better than Miley who is really underappreciated here. They are probably better than most pitchers available.

I found this pitcher who has a 3.25 ER and 2.7 WAR over 113 IPs. He might be a solid get for our playoff run.

Yeah....I've pointed him out a couple of times. Very good number three guy for Houston. Number two on many teams

I really hope we don't move Beer. He has been crushing it in Corpus and seems poised to be our 1B/DH of the future.

Do you not want more starting help to save our bullpen some innings? I mean Miley has been great this year but going forward we need help and we need to fill some voids for him and possibly Cole leaving next year.

That starting playoff rotation would be absolutely ridiculous. Would be a great get.
