Someone mentioned it in the off-season thread but I’d watch and see what Minny does, they might be forced to let go of one of their 3 quality CBs
You spend big money corners, not safeties. Last year we had three very good pro bowl caliber safeties and the secondary was still not very good.
I wonder if HB"s & Kareem's skill rating + compensation level will be enough to get 3rd round compensatory picks or just 4th's? If we have to not sign any significant FA's this year + waste another year of Watson's cheap prime for 2 picks at the end of the 4th round it won't be worth it at all. We just threw away a better pick than that on a 2-3 month rental of D. Thomas!
To be fair though ... Gronk is in decline I still like the signing. Think our entire DB Corp needs to be shaken clean.
Right! How did he do against Ebron last year? Spoiler 10 catches and 81 yards 3 catches (on 3 targets) 69 yards and 2 touchdowns edit: Ebron against the Texans Spoiler 5 catches 40 yards 1 touchdown 4 catches 65 yards 1 touchdown 3 catches 26 yards 1 touchdown
Just heard his interview on the radio and I was very impressed with his words. Sounds like a Beverley. Not scared of anyone.
Me too. Nothing against the dude. Love him. But he creates a logjam at FS and one of them will have to play SS. Not sure how well that is going to work. Maybe they move Hal back to CB.
Is SS that hard a position to fill, though? I'm no football savant, but it seems like a SS is a better tackler and a FS is a better runner. In my mind you can take a FS and put him at SS, but you can't do the opposite. It's like asking Bernardrick McKinney to go in coverage instead of Dante Cunningham. Maybe we fill SS through a late round pick in the draft. It seems like you can get a thumper late.
Some safeties can do both. That's what makes Matthieu so special (and expensive). He played SS, FS, was a CB in college, and can even return kicks. At this point, Gipson is better than Reid and would probably be asked to play SS. Reid had some problems tackling in his first year. I don't see them drafting a safety. I think they ask one of their 3 FS to play SS or they play 3 MLBs (McKinney, Cunningham, and Cole) a lot.
I’m pretty sure Reid was one of the surest tacklers in the league last year as far as missed tackles go. Secondly, majority of the teams in the league no longer use a box safety, it’s a relic of the past honestly. Cover guys that can fill in run gaps are essentially what most teams run. Two free safety types with one being closer to the los.
Crennel spent a bunch of time in years past saying that he doesn't differentiate between FS and SS. He just wants two guys who can play all aspects of the safety position.
