Can anyone come up with a list of trades or personnel moves that were bad for both sides? The best one I can come up so far is: Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker trade. Reason: Both were all stars and quite possible HOFs. They were great players who were almost copies of each other. Do I need to say more? In case you weren't around in the past 10 years, they are both now washed up and one is out of the NBA and the other is almost out of the NBA.
Don't forget this was actually a 3 way deal ... From NBA.com site of Shawn Kemp "Traded by the Sonics to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-way deal in which the Cavaliers sent Terrell Brandon, Tyrone Hill, and a 1998 first-round draft choice to the Milwaukee Bucks for Sherman Douglas, and the Bucks sent Vin Baker to the Sonics on 9/25/97." Interesting side note, the first round pick of the Bucks from Cleveland in 1998 was Pat Garrity, who was later packaged with Dirk Nowitzki to Dallas for Tractor Traylor. Dallas then traded Garrity, a couple of scrubs and a first round 1999 pick (Marion) for Steve Nash. Basically, that 3 way Kemp-Brandon-Baker benefited two teams involved ... Dallas and Phoenix.
I can think of a good one.....the infamous Ralph Sampson for Sleepy Floyd and Joe Barry Carroll. Do I really need to state why?
Great one guys! Keep em coming! Yao Wink, great analysis. How about this? Jason Kidd (Byron Scott) and Steph (Phoenix)?
Well, I think Jason Kidd was probably great for Byron Scott's career even if he did end up getting fired. Looking for his next job, it'll be more impressive to say you went to the Finals twice and got fired with a winning record because or some personal vendetta than to say you were an EC lotto team and you got fired because your team couldn't compete.
no no no.... the first was good, but up until last season people were saying that this was a GREAT trade for both sides. Kidd was awesome for NJ, and Marbury emerged in Pheonix. I mean the trade improved both teams for a significant period of time...
Vancouver trading Steve Francis to the Rockets for Michael Dickerson, Othella Harrington and scrubs. Only Othella is still in the NBA and we haven't made the playoffs in the four and a half years since and are still stuck with Francis.
