So....I caught my wife in a weak moment last week when Dell was offering their 20.1" LCD at 25% off. She said "yes," and now I've got a dual monitor setup. The problem is.....I've never had one nor do I really know anyone who has one. I know I can use it for Photoshop which is the main reason I don't want to ditch my old monitor. But what else can I do with a dual monitor setup? What are some cool ways to utilize it? I've "extended" my desktop which to me....means I've got my desktop and icons on one monitor and open aps and my taskbar on the other. Surely I can get something better than that. I've done a cursory look on the net, and I'll continue to research, but I'm guessing that someone here can offer some good advice on how to best utilize this dual monitor setup. What's the best way to use both monitors....especially when my old CRT is a pretty sweet screen in and of itself.
What do you mean? Just use it any way you see fit. I use it for more space on my PC's desktop. I have windows open on both screens. I use it for the multiple windows function. What more do people really do with dual monitors other than create more space on their desktop? I don't think there's a wrong or right way to use it.
Maybe I should have been more clear.....I have no idea what I'm doing yet. How do I open windows in both screens. As far as I can see so far (in the two or three hours I've had to jack with it), I only get windows on one screen and my desktop (with icons) on the other.
Drag the window from the screen without icons to the screen with icons. Maximize it. It will stay in the desktop screen now. It's a bit different but now that I have two monitor's I'm not sure how anyone works with one.
Your video card has to support "mirroring". If your only display option was "extend destop" then your card doesn't support it.

Forgot, the features depend on your video card. I like the ATI utilities that describe what's happening. I set both monitors to the same vertical resolution so I can drag stuff over from one to the other without clipping, with one virtual screen spread over two monitors.
Here's what I do with dual monitors: When I work on my website I open FrontPage on my main screen and put the folder with the appropriate pictures on the other screen. That way I don't have to go back and forth between programs to see what I want. Many people open Outlook (and keep it open) in one screen and work in the other. If you use Word or Excel you can stretch the program across both screens (really only works well if both monitors are the same size) and have pages open in each monitor (or just spread your cells really wide). Dual Monitors is/are one of my favorite "things" now. I could not live without it! I can't stand it when I'm at work and have to toggle between two programs now.
