The Harris County Judge wields a lot of power in the county. This is a wealthy powerful area This solidifies the county as blue she just rode the blue wave. So did a group of black women as far as judges Edit: 19 black women won judge positions
The GOP shot themselves in the foot. Ed Emmett is a great man, loved by many on both sides of the aisle and rightfully so and he is a victim of his party's incompetence. Beto's 16 point taking of Harris County was pretty much the death of just about every Republican on the ballot in Harris county. The real kicker, it was Texas GOP State Senators who got the straight ticket voting extended one final time to this election cycle. Sadly, the people of Harris County lose one of the few "good ones" out there because of it.
People are going to die needlessly during the next hurricane because of those who voted straight-party Democrat put someone who isn't even from here and has zero-administrative experience into one of the most important public safety positions. Such ignorance.
I voted more democratic than I’ve ever voted but definitely voted to re-elect Emmett. He’s seemingly done a wonderful job and by all accounts is a great guy. Crazy he lost.
Or, because people on the right were too lazy to look down. I'm shocked he lost. I was looking at that early on because I thought it was weird that he was even running ads. I don't live in Harris County so I didn't see the ballot. I realize it was cumbersome due to the number of judge positions but that's no excuse to not go through the ballot. And the right only has itself to blame as they're the ones that decided to extend the straight ticket option. FYI...if I lived in HC, I would've voted for Emmett.
This is mostly an admin job. I think the lady who won is probably suprised. I don't think she has any admin experience. I don't remember seeing any ads for her Wow she is only 27 and she went to law school. She might have 1-2 years of experience. I don't even know if she has had any real jobs before this.
How often is this position voted on ? I think if given the chance to vote again in the near future , people will re elect emmit if he chooses to run again . Straight ticket voting is not my favorite thing in the world .
The terms are four years for the Harris County Commissioners Court and it has no term limits. Luckily, this was the last straight-ticket voting election cycle in Texas. All future elections will not allow straight ticket ballots.
Electing judges is a legacy of Texas wanting counties to have local control. Other states the govenor appoints them luke the president. Texas's constitution is cumbersome because of stuff like this
