People can get work visas, green cards, etc. They don't need citizenship for that. That isn't dumb liberal ish. That is the law.

People fleeing persecution may well feel grateful enough and loyal enough to the United States that they want to become citizens. We once had a great center on the Rockets from another country who went through the process of becoming a citizen because he loved this country and the opportunities he found here.

The pledge of allegiance should go the way of cursive writing. It’s actually very creepy to require children to pledge themselves every day as if to reaffirm their allegiance lest they become nazis or something. I don’t say the pledge every morning before work and I work for the government.

People will push back on this likely for the same reason about taking down confederate statues or celebrating Columbus Day when he ordered the genocide of Hispaniola in pursuit of gold.

I'm not sure what it is about our law that you don't understand. They get Visas because they want to work here and not be citizens. That is allowed by law. They take citizenship oaths because they want to be citizens. They don't need citizenship oaths if all they want is the money from working.

Because it's easier actually hurts your argument. If it's easier just to get a work visa that only is more reason why they wouldn't go for the more difficult process of becoming a citizen unless that was something they wanted. They choose to do that. They are volunteering for that.

It isn't just because of money. Because like you say, it's much easier to just get a work visa.

 

Nobody becomes a citizen in order to take the oath. They become a citizen knowing that the oath is part of the process. They volunteer to do that. If they didn't want to take the oath they wouldn't become citizens. They don't object to that oath.

 

It isn't the same situation. If my kids tell me they have a problem with the pledge they are welcome to not stand up for it. None of them ever has. Forcing someone to pledge allegiance is a problem.
