    Can someone explain all of the rage and awful Ben Simmons jokes every time rookies are mentioned now? Are these all Utah fans? Do a large amount of NBA fans just not follow enough sports to know how rookie designations work?

    Who knew there were so many Utah fans? It's everywhere.

    Anyway, I'm higher on Melton than most Rockets rookies in a very long time, including Capela. Capela was a real success story. I hope MDA keeps him involved.

    Not necessarily. September 5 is just the deadline for the Rockets to EXTEND the Required Tender. Melton has until October 15 to ACCEPT it. If the Rockets withdraw the Required Tender, I believe they will lose Melton's draft rights. It would act kind of like a qualifying offer in that it is an outstanding offer that Melton has in his back pocket.

    So, it is still possible for Melton and the Rockets to work on a mutually agreeable deal beyond September 5. It's just that the stakes may change a bit after then.

    Still, I am cautiously optimistic that the two sides will come to an agreement on a multi-year deal before training camp.
