I love the people that are like “Morey would not have let him go without a back up plan”.
He has no choice. He has no cap space. He has no assets.
Phoenix didn’t tell Ariza “here is $15 million, take your time, shop around”. He had to take it and we have to accept he’s gone. No back up plan but also not unexpected. We were prepared that this is very likely to happen (losing Ariza)
Veteran minimums! That’s all we’re getting. We have no choice but it’s also ok because we had arguably the best team last year. Once Lebron passed on us it became clear we were going to keep the same team with the possibility of losing Ariza and the addition of whatever veteran is willing to play for cheap for us.

Maybe luxury tax wise? but not salary cap. They're so far over the cap, his $3.5M wouldn't matter.

Not sure I get you’re point. DM wasn’t powerless on this one. He had Ariza’s bird rights and could give him $35.6m if he wanted too. He wasn’t bound by anything other than the tax burden.

With Dallas getting DJ and Phx getting Ariza who's left to bid against us for Clint? Might be a blessing in disguise.

Getting a discount on Clint would be bigger win than the loss of Ariza.

The Nets were on the list. Worth noting that they just signed Ed Davis. Wouldn't be surprised if they still offered him.

Yeah but that was Stephen A Smith. Not a credible reporter.

Which is one hell of a burden. Pretty much powerless. No one should have expected him to come close to that number.

So they can defensively switch their way to another top 10 pick.
