Applaud him for what? Acting juvenile? Even if he shook her hand and stood up and clapped for the unified Korea team (90+% are South Koreans), nobody would suddenly think we legitimizing the Kim regime, or that we are okay with their policies & behavior etc. What did he accomplish with this act? There are no viable military options in Korea, so the only way to possibly limit Kim's nuclear arsenal & delivery capacity and de-escalate the current situation is through diplomacy ( de-nuclearization is a fantasy, it's not happening).

Last I checked she doesn't own any slaves but what's your point? She represents the head of state of a nation. It's childish not to practice diplomacy even with our enemy states.

Of course Trump doesn't know how to handle these situations since he gutted his state department.

We should take notes and cues from NK's government and leadership to help run our country because they do it better. Hot take bro!

There are a handful of deliberately stupid people here. It's really quite remarkable to see.

I've read their posts on these boards. They dismiss the attempts as "it happens all the time" "We do the same thing". Aces tried to deny it even happened for a long time.

I don't expect you to have read all the same posts I have, but nothing I've said is made up.

At a sporting event that is supposed to show humanity outshining the ills of the political world, yes you should. At a political meeting with serious issues to discuss, absolutely not.

You've lost your mind. North Korea runs concentration camps. Let that sink in. It's the equivalent of shaking hands with Adolf Hitler.

Don’t they call liberals who get triggered by an article or news story snowflakes? What are conservatives who are triggered called?

trump does. and he insults the united states while he does it.

    from last year...

In an interview with Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, which will air ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday, Trump doubled down on his “respect” for Putin — even in the face of accusations that Putin and his associates have murdered journalists and dissidents in Russia.

“I do respect him. Well, I respect a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get along with them,” Trump told O'Reilly.

O'Reilly pressed on, declaring to the president that “Putin is a killer.”

Unfazed, Trump didn't back away, but rather compared Putin's reputation for extrajudicial killings with the United States'.

“There are a lot of killers. We have a lot of killers,” Trump said. “Well, you think our country is so innocent?”

Saying "slave owner" is far too nice. We have a ridiculous bunch of people who are upset that the VP didn't shake hands with essentially Joseph Goebbels and stand as the Nazis marched into the stadium. That's how bad they've got it right now.

in real life republicans have a higher favorability rating of the murderous russian president putin than they do of obama.

    https://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/gop-russia-putin-support-232714

Back in July 2014 just 10 percent of Republicans held a favorable view of Putin, according to a poll conducted by the Economist and YouGov. By September of 2016, that number rose to 24 percent. And it's even higher today: 37 percent of Republicans view Putin favorably, the poll found in December.

While the Russian president still has a net un-favorability rating among Republicans, his standing has improved dramatically – from a net negative of 66 points to a mere 10 points.
By comparison, only 17 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of President Barack Obama, the December poll found. Obama’s net negative among Republicans is 64 points – significantly worse than the party’s take on Putin.

They place their political party over common sense. It's insane.

Sure, but I expect that from the extremist fringe partisans on both sides, the problem is how absolutely widespread and mainstream the views of what should be the "extremist fringe" is on the left.

Did you disagree with the South Koreans, you know the country that is most effected by North Korea, flying under one flag during the Olympics?

Are the South Koreans now concentration camp supporters?

Why don't you apply your logic outside your talking point.

If i'm interested in trying to turn them into non-slave owners without a war, then yes.

No, it isn't. Yes, N. Korea does run concentration camps. They also cause their citizens to starve and face malnutrition.

But when there is a chance to show a trace of humanity in a non-political arena, you do that. You do it, especially because when you don't, the horrible murderous tyrant wins the battle.

Not shaking a hand based on principle should be used in an arena where it actually might make a difference. Instead, Pence looked like simpleton more than the dictator's sister. I don't condone making the dictator's family come out on top in any exchange.

If only Chamberlain had done a better job of shaking hands with Goebbels and been more enthusiastic about supporting the Nazis in the 1936 Olympics, perhaps we could have avoided a war because clearly those actions would have shown them the error of their ways.

The United States does not have formal diplomatic relations with North Korea so having the VP shake hands with their minister of propaganda would be HIGHLY inappropriate and only something used for North Korean propaganda. I get why some of our friends on the left are struggling with that concept because they prefer to just complain about the current administration no matter what they are doing, but they are really embarrassing themselves on this one.
