Teams spent like drunker sailors over the last few years on painfully mediocre players that didn't truly move the meter for their team. The 76ers are the only team that did things the smart way. You have to get to a salary floor every year, so instead of handing out a stupid multi year deal, just hand out a one year huge lump sum to a player.
ESPN's title made me think this was talk of a league revenue crunch coming. They should have titled it, "NBA Team Salary crunch is coming."
yeah this belongs in the Ryan Anderson thread. The next few days will be quite telling. I can see the Suns because they have a delusional owner but the Hawks, bulls, nets should start getting back more salary for 1sts..
NBA GM's constantly need to be saved from themselves, it's wild. They'd give Glenn Robinson $575mil if they could.
This is super interesting and greatly affects the Rockets. It's going to be very hard to clear salary for LeBron or anyone else, but could possibly make teams more open to sign and trade scenarios like we did with Chris Paul if a player is resolved to leave regardless.
This is very interesting but I dont believe it. Keith Smith is a Celtics guy. And what a surprise a rfa of the Celtics has been for months on the block and the last two days publicly. Translation of this tweet : I talked to a Boston person who said that Smart should have lots of value. He's worth the 1st rounder that we ask for.
I think there is "some" validity to what Keith is saying. But yeah, my first though is what you said and I think that is part of it too.
This isn't necessarily bad for the Rockets with Capela, Ariza and Moute being free agents. Also don't forget that the teams linked to James need to move salaries as well. The Lakers need to move Deng and Clarkson.
This happens every few years and every few years the teams make the same stupid mistakes and give ridiculous contracts out
Ryan Anderson about to screw up the Rox's plans again! Darryl Morey must be reliving the moment he signed Anderson again and again every night lol.
