I was a fan who attended Colt 45 games, so I have been at this a long time. I can't remember an Astro's team that had this many hitters at or near .300. Maybe one or two in the lineup, but not the majority of the lineup. Has Astro hitting ever been this good? Maybe the 1998 team, but overall maybe never.
There's a long way to go, but I think the answer is there has never been an Astros team this good. BA and more advanced (and simpler) metrics all fell the same story.
And Musgrove may not have gotten out of the 6th inning had Hinch not made the switch. The fact is that Hinch made a double switch. It "didn't work" in your mind because the Astros batted around. Hinch's thinking like every single other manager in baseball is that if Devenski has to bat the next inning then at worst they scored three runs. That's a no brainer. Any manager would love that scenario in a tie game. Just another weird complaint in a season of weird complaints. A double switch works out perfectly offensively and pitching wise and someone complains.
I remember when those used to be the OBPs of some of the guys who were in the lineup on any given night.
Bregman isn't bad compared to rest of the league, but at this point, if Hinch can't find a position for Marwin elsewhere, Marwin should be at 3B (i.e. his usage should be that of a normal starter) and Bregman should sit
I love this team. We can sit here and talk about how successful they have been so far, but the main reason I love them is because they look like they really enjoy baseball. And they genuinely like and respect each other. It's really hard not to fall in love with a team like that.
Maybe I'm a homer, but I like seeing that they're genuinely pissed off when they don't come through. You have to temper that, of course, but it seems as if they're truly driven.
4/6 were acquired or drafted by luhnow. I do think he should win exec of the year with the McCann trade and reddick/beltran signing. But it's Houston sports so the award will go to the Yankees gm since he drafted aaron judge a few years ago....just like how golden states gm won exec of the year for signing kevin Durant while Morey took an 8th seeded team, lost D Howard and created a team that had the 3rd best record in the NBA.
It's actually 6.925 runs, sir. We round to 3 figures here at Clutchfans. But seriously, I don't even know what to say this team is just ridiculous. 7 doubles in 3 straight games, how in the world?
Highest exit-velocity, per 790am.. Correa 90.9 Gurriel 90.2 Springer 89.9 Judge 96+ --- wouldn't mind his fall off
