Guessing they liked Russell as a potential building block and because they knew this upcoming season was a wash. Him and Hollis-Jefferson (and KJ McDaniel LOL) as building pieces likely better than anything they could draft... and Mozgov was just the price they had to pay.

I would say its good for them if they dont overpay for George. I feel like they may give ind 3 first rounders

The Nets aren't going anywhere. And had cap space to use. D'Angelo has dissapointed imo, but is till on the way up. Lopez has always been disappointing. Frankly the cap space next offseason might be more important to the Lakers than Brook Lopez.

That Mozgov contract was one of the worst out there.

They unloaded it with a young talent who had personality conflict in their locker room.

Lopez is also a playable tier center, which for them is honestly the afterthought in this trade. It was really a win-win-win for the Lakers

Salary wise it's possible since they would've to dump some salary to trade for George.

    Deng + 2 for George.
Give Clarkson to anyone for whatever.
    Then go after CP3.

Of course it was a cap space move for LA. Lopez was just icing on top. He's expiring next year.

Now they have Clarkson &/or Randle, 27 & 28 to move Deng if they want. Now those two bad contracts moved. Who will be the other sucker to help?

That tweet by Woj, makes you think the Lakers don't wanna Carmelo Anthony themselves and give up too many assets now and just try to sign PG in FA next year. I don't know how smart that is though.

I think the play is to trade for him now. The Lakers don't like their assets all that much save for the #2 pick and hedging your bets on Lonzo. But if you want PG do you want Lonzo too... going the PG route means you want a vet team to go in with. And that doesn't happen with Lonzo learning the ropes.

But that could just be my Lavar hate coming out.

I had a feeling that everybody knew Russell was gonna get traded because of Lonzo.

Dang good move by the lakers shed mozgof salary got a decent player in Lopez just in case they do get PG13 a year early to maybe make a run at 8th seed.

But they opened up a boatload of cap space for next summer.

They could have Lonzo ball Paul George Lebron James Brandon Ingram and that young foreign center as there starting five by the start of 18-19 season.

That team assuming the youngsters are as good as advertised and develop could push golden state.

It's got the versatility and length with the shooting to make it compelling.

Shout out to Brooklyn also they don't have any picks for a while and trying Russell is something there fan base can get excited about taking on mozgof for a few years is fine.

They might have a guy who could make the allstar game in the east next season and that's awesome for them. I'm sure he'll be a 20 and 5 guy easy on that team.

Yeah. They had to get rid of Russell anyway. He's disappointed the organization thus far. He's apparently been a bit of a problem. And they're probably about to draft another kid who plays the same position.

They don't own their pick next year, so adding a player like Lopez who makes them better doesn't hurt them (and will please their fans). It rids them of one of the worst contracts on their roster (they still have Deng though) and they pick up the 27th pick? Not too shabby.

Excellent deal for both. Lakers clearing space and possibly get the pieces together to form a competitive team this summer. Nets get D'Angelo in his rookie contract and can possibly develop him into a franchise player. Russian connection in Brooklyn is intact.

I get the Lakers need to open up cap, but I feel Russell is a big overpay in a deal to dump Mozgof. Great deal for the Nets.

Lakers are dumbasses for signing Mozgof and Deng, and just lost the 2016 2nd overall pick to dump ONE of them. I think Russell will be a nice player in a couple of years.

Not sure the numbers but can they have the Banana boat crew plus PG. I mean they'd trade for PG now, sign CP3, sign James next season, trade Melo for a bag of chips, Wade signs for cheap. LOL

    On a rockets note.

If we can't get a big time player this offseason we need to trade for a young up and coming guy.

Even if he has baggage like a Russell it's worth a shot.

No one thought that harden was worth max but houston and we turned him into a top 5 MVP franchise player.

Those are the gambles Morey needs to take.

I'm on board with Capela I actually think if he can add 20lbs and keep his mobility and leaping he'll be a top 10 center next year in terms of raw production. He could be a 15/10/2 guy easy and I might be underselling him on the rebounded.

He showed a lot in that Spurs series.
