Would I be a damned fool to consider renting out an extra bedroom in my house to visitors intent on attending the Superbowl for worthwhile (but not price-gouging) rates? I live inside the loop about 10 minutes (without Superbowl traffic) from the stadium.

    Rent Away.

If you are the ultimate business man you'll advertise your room in such a way to make it sound like a bargain when it really isn't. That way both parties are happy.

If you have enough money to go to the Super Bowl, you probably have enough money to rent a hotel room.

Hotel rooms are going to get pretty scarce around here with so many people coming to town.

PSJ, would those two parties be the one I throw to celebrate finding such a sucker in the first place and the one I throw to commemorate his actually giving me the check? :D

This is kind of underhanded, but you could make hotel reservations for Superbowl weekend, and then rent them out for considerable more later...right?

That way you can cash in on the Superbowl and not have to sacrifice your privacy.

vj23k, go to hyatt.com or marriott.com or whatever hotel website you like and try to make a reservation for a room between, say 1/30 and 2/2. Everything is already booked up. Besides that, I'm sure the hotel won't let you sublet their rooms.

Here's a website for folks wanting to rent out their space for the superbowl: http://houston.craigslist.org/cgi-b...=&query=superbowl&cat=1&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max

There's a guy asking for $4,000 a night to rent his house next to the stadium. That's pretty insane.

Mulletman, that's quite a neurosis you have there. :p

There was an article in the Chronicle a couple of weeks ago about this very phenomenon: Renting out private homes during Super Bowls. The article basically said that very few private individuals actually rent their homes as there really is no demand and the only people making mony off this enterprise are the people who charge a ton of money to list your house as available for rent!

The article also said that there were plenty of hotels available during that weekend.

    Super-size rental dreams
