Well there's a stark difference in price between grass-fed bison/longhorn and grass-fed beef, even at sprouts/whole foods. I'm really only interested in ground beef for hamburgers, and maybe 4-5 lbs of cheaper steak cuts. I am aware that many farms are "grain-finished." No idea how that affects the omega 3/6 ratios, but it's annoying that it's just another barrier to obtaining truly clean meat.

Thanks for the help and ideas, everyone!

All cattle are grass fed. Grass fed implies that they were not sent to a feeding lot to fatten them up before they are butchered. Smaller cows=smaller yields=higher prices. I don't like the taste of grass fed beef because they are too lean. I don't eat that much beef for it to make a difference.

BTW, this is where I went to in Paris to get grass-fed stuff : https://www.texasgrassfedbeef.com/

Ted Slanker is absolutely nuts about grass-fed meats. I don't know enough to say he's legit, but good grief is the man convincing. lol. You may have heard of them if you've ever researched grass-fed meats on the Internet. The meat I bought from there was alright, I guess. But I bought bison. They have all kinds of meats there.

"grass feeding" is the cheapest means to feed cows. Why is that desirable?

I've been eating grass fed beef my entire life and didn't even know I was a hipster.

Not true. You get better yield when you put them on a feed lot which makes the price per pound go down.

My father and uncle used to go in halves on a heifer that came from my grandfather's place in East Texas, a few miles outside of Quitman, which is east of Lake Fork. Fantastic beef. We had a freezer full of every kind of cut, butchered by someone Grandpa knew up there. They fed on fields of clover when it bloomed.

I don't think I've ever eaten grass fed steak. I assume purely grass fed cattles can't produce enough fat and marbling for it to be graded very high.

Although grass fed beef taste delicious in burgers, they have a distinct flavor that's stronger than grain fed.

I've had farm fresh lamb. The grassy taste was so strong no one could eat it.

Have you tried Burger on the Go? They have a method of obtaining six regular sized hamburgers, or 12 sliders, from a cow without killing the animal.
