This is a team with Dwight Howard on it that it the worst rim protecting team in the league. He's not serviceable in the middle. He can only play the "Terrence" role, which is to say look good cleaning up junk alongside Dwight and Harden.

    We need true backup center.

Haven't been reading Clutchfans as much as normal lately, but this thread (surprisingly) certainly shows that there is hate for Capella. The guy is a 21 year old player with little NBA experience who is playing in a system not favorable to his style, yet he is/was starting on a .500 team. Not bad if you ask me. He has had a rough patch (I watch every game and have for years and years and years), but I believe that he is ultimately a starter in this league.

He's serviceable and fine as a 10-15mpg backup.

But if his value nets us someone that's capable of playing big minutes at the 4, we ought to look to do it. I don't think his potential is anywhere near as good as people think. I hope I eat crow though.

They can't spend money on players that would violate the salary rules of the league.

A lot of the posters on this board are just dumb or more likely posting like dumb people just so they can vent out the frustrations they have in life, honestly the best advice I can give to players is just never visit clutchfans. It doesn't matter how well you've played or what your circumstances are, so know it all poster is still gonna want your ass traded just because.

He's a good backup center - a lot better than Greg Smith from a couple years back. And a lot better deal than Asik - and better than Asik on offense (shows how bad Asik is).

It's not Capela's fault we have no other bigs.

He's got good backup center numbers - offensive boards & blocks.

Clint Capela has the 17th best defensive RPM in the entire league. He most certainly hasn't been bad on the defensive end. Our perimeter defense has ben dog s**t terrible this season, and our PF's have been a joke.

This is what a terrible defensive player looks like, he's in a league by himself. 95th rated defensively, almost twice as bad as the guy ranked 93rd.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/3/sort/DRPM/position/6

He has the 3rd best RPM on the team behind Harden and Howard, he has been very effective this year. Unfortunately his offense has regressed as the season has gone on. He's still not physically ready to deal with big minutes in the NBA.

A lot better than Asik? Noooooooo.

Asik's rebound and freethrow is far better than Capela.

Better on offense? I also don't think so. Capela is also butter fingers and misses so many easy layups.

The problem is that Capela is/was our 2nd best big on the team just over a week ago before smith got here.

The fact the for the first 44 games Clint Capela at 21 was our 2nd best big man I repeat 2nd best big man.

..... And we wonder why we get killed in the paint?

Iv been down on Clint for a while but I do see that he's an intriguing prospect longterm, he's shown enough in basically 50 games worth for us to not just completely write him off plus he's only 21.

But morey new Dmo was coming off back surgery he knew Jones has struggled in the playoffs every year and on top of that he told smith he didn't think we had minutes for him? Lol was that some kind of joke.

Morey has done some amazing things here in aquiring Harden and drafting Parsons those were nice he also brought in dwight, although I chalk that more up to James Harden being really really good his first year than morey being a great salesman.

But he has not addressed the PF spot at all. We've had young PFs here dwights whole 3 year tenure. Why not sign a solid vet? Doesn't always have to be a star. This team would be so much better with David west or even scola at PF right now.

In a nutshell that's why Clint has gotten so much hate lately.

Because morey failed to grab some solid vet bigmen. He rather sign KJ freaking McDaniels for flexibility? Lol how about field a well rounded team?

I said better DEAL than Asik. And Capela is better on offense. Asik is absolutely incapable of doing anything on offense, if you forgot. No one has worse hands than Asik.

There are 38 centers in the NBA with better defensive rebound rates than Capela. And rebounding is undoubtedly one of his strengths. Now....granted, some of this is scheme related as we have NOBODY boxing out and only the defensive center down low rebounding. But all the same, there's lots of these centers' teams below playing small-ball as well.

Capela is young and he's going to get better. But he's just not that good right now. And the unknown is how much better he's actually going to get.

    Clint Capela 22.5
    Ian Mahinmi 22.6
    Aron Baynes 22.9
    Gorgui Dieng 23.1
    Enes Kanter 23.5
    Joffrey Lauvergne 24.3
    J.J. Hickson 24.3
    Tim Duncan 24.3
    Anderson Varejao 24.6
    Dewayne Dedmon 24.6
    Greg Monroe 24.7
    Alex Len 24.9
    JaVale McGee 25.2
    Jusuf Nurkic 25.4
    Jason Thompson 25.7
    Cole Aldrich 25.8
    Omer Asik 25.9
    Joakim Noah 26.1
    Marcin Gortat 26.1
    Rudy Gobert 26.3
    Jonas Valanciunas 26.4
    Zaza Pachulia 26.5
    Alexis Ajinca 26.5
    Pau Gasol 27.1

He's not good enough but what did you expect exactly ? I'm very satisfied with Capela..but then again I never thought last year that he was going to be a star. He's a normal player who learns. The Rockets have to think if they have the luxury to invest time in his development correct. But Capela doesn't have a disapointing learning curve. It's a normal learning curve by most young bigs.
    They need patience.

When we drafted him, Clint wasn't supposed to be ready to come to the country at least for another year. He had been playing in a weak league on an average team not doing anything noteworthy statistically. His shot mechanics and footwork were pretty horrendous.

After 70 games last season, Clint was not supposed to be ready to be called up to the NBA for rotation minutes on a team vying for playoff victories.

At the beginning of this season, Clint was not supposed to be ready to face off against NBA starters. And he's not ready.

He is well ahead of schedule. It's easier to get results when coaches are not expecting much from you and opponents do not pay any attention to you. He hasn't regressed or improved much, he's just playing against better competition. We are judging him on his ability to guard NBA starting 4's, and he was not even supposed to be in the NBA at this point.

Also, he has put on weight. It's looking like it won't be easy to do for him, but he is stronger than last season. My biggest issue with him right now is how often he chooses to lay it in instead of dunking it when he's at the basket. I've also heard a couple of times from Bill and Bull that Clint works at his FT's in practice, so while I'm disappointed in the result I can't be mad at him not converting. His form looks good to be honest, he's not a flinger like Howard or careless like Josh.

Other than that, he's doing well against backup 5 caliber players and that's all I can ask of him. That's all we'll need from him when D-Mo is healthy, and it will allow him breathing room to focus on his mistakes. I'm still very confident that he will be an excellent player in a year or two, possibly a starter on a good team. I'm glad he's practicing against Dwight everyday because that's where he'll learn defense, and also I heard Bill Worrell saying that Hakeem has taken him on as a project which is good news.
