He has a LOT more athleticism than Patterson AND he actually plays a bit of defense where Patterson didn't/doesn't. Also Harrell's 7'4.25" wingspan is ridiculous.
Imo he could be our 2006-07 Carl Landry this year, the similarities are a bit eerie. Rookie, second round pick, PF, high energy 2-way player, and they stayed in college.
Because Jones has been able to play minutes in multiple NBA seasons while Harrell is even more clueless on where to be on the floor. People are down on Jones simply because he is nothing more than an average PF with an interesting skill set and clutch fans looks at players as either stars or busts.
Wonder why he has not shown a lot of these moves while on the rockets ! I have rarely seen him shoot that rainbow fade away !!!!
"We need to find minutes for this guy, his energy is infectious!" *Sits him on bench for next 2 games, then sends him to RGV* -- Coach of the Year
Like Dobro said, that turnaround jumper is awkward, slow, and ugly. He doesn't make that with any kind of consistency in the NBA. Other than that, I've always liked his game. I think he'll be a useful player for a long time.
He's the poster child for college players that used their athleticism and strength against weaker opponents. It's promising that's he doing the same thing against the D-League, but he's still very raw and without a high bball IQ. Can't wait to see how he looks in the Summer League, assuming he is still a Rocket.
