The GM's job is to acquire as much talent on the roster as possible. You can look at the team roster every year and it compares favorably to the roster from the previous year. There is no one in the NBA better at his job than Daryl Morey. Putting Morey on the hot seat because he "hasn't done anything in terms of winning titles" is a far more outcome oriented analysis than is logical.

I hope not, because I like most of what Morey has done. It is only because of Morey that we are competitive. He made the Harden, Dwight and other smart FA moves/trades (Ariza, Terry, Brewer, Lawson -hopefully paying off soon). And while many are pissed about the start of the season, the major reason we were able to root on the Rockets late in the season last year, was due to these moves.

I am not saying he gets fired, I am asking if you guys think Les has given him an ultimatum of some kind.

    Unbelievable...

Look I like Morey too, but he's been here a long time and at some point the Rockets need to start producing. His seat is mildly warming. Just like Mchale has to take the sword for the players, Morey has to take the sword for the coaches he hires.

You may be right about undervaluing coaching. DM is terrific at assembling great talent from nothin.'I don't think his job is on the line just based on what he has accomplished vs what he had to work with. I'm not sure many GMs could build the type of team DM has while complying with Les's marching orders of no tanking. I'm guessing Les sees and understands that.

    I highly doubt it.

Acquiring good players hasn't been the issue, and I think Les is aware how tough it was to get this roster without tanking. He's also aware that Morey would be snapped up by a rival team by the end of the day if released now.

Nope, not even close. Morey is why we're here.

I don't envy Morey's future task of trying to persuade Harden and Howard to stay, or find their replacements though.

That is how I see it too, but if you are Les and Morey hand picked McHale, do you take a more active role and say something like "I will hire the next coach - you focus on building the team".

Which would undercut DM a bit - Honestly, Les owns the team, and he has expectations - which Morey should be help accountable for as well - he has done an amazing job of building this team - now he needs to make us perennial contenders.

Firing Morey would be a mistake..he just needs to hire a good coach and get out the way.

I think how we do next season will affect Morey more than the ultimate result this season.

Shall I also respond "no", or have enough people stated the obvious?

There's no way. One star thread. I'm out.

Of course he isn't on the hot seat, dumb question. Les might put pressure on him but firing Morey would be colossally stupid. He's our golden goose.

Aside from a trade for harden and lawson while getting Dwight in FA. The rest of the roster is draft picks or players who played horrible before signing in houston at end of Free agency. (Thornton and Brewer)

I don't think it's gonna happen, DD. You could apply for coach though.

I think this is a possibility, but that's a far cry from hot seat.
