I just had someone knock on my door and try to sell me some meat (I'm hoping of the beef, pork or chicken variety). I seldom answer the door when I think it's a solicitor but my garage was open so I opened it. I'm wary of buying anything from a door to door salesperson especially meat.

Have any of you bought meat that way and did you live to tell about it?

My folks used to buy meat from those door to door guys. Never had any problems. In fact, the meat was always very good.

Yes. My dad used to all the time. The Omaha Steaks salesmen are offering good deals. I just don't like the variety packs, though. I would buy if I had a separate freezer, and I didn't have to get an assortment. I'd get a whole freaking case of those stuffed jumbo shrimp (and likely die before I finish eating them), if you didn't have to buy all the other stuff.

omaha steaks is great. the hamburgers are good, the filets are great, but the potato au gratin is the best (with a schitload of catsup anyway).

don't think i'd trust meat from anyone else though.

A bit of trivia... who became a door-to-door meat salesman after he left the NFL.

Hint 1 : He had his 15 mins. of fame. :)

    Doug Williams? :p

I hardly ever know the checkout person at the grocery store, so I've bought meat from a stranger plenty of times...

We have a guy who delivers fresh cod fillets to our door every week or two. $20 per pack, and it's of great quality. For all I know, he could be stealing it from the fish plant somehow, but as long as he delivers the goods, we'll be customers.

Last year, a guy came to our door selling meat from his truck (is there any way to say that so it doesn't sound dirty??). Umm...anyway, I don't honestly think he believed me when I told him we were vegetarians -- probably figured I was just trying to get rid of him.

I did buy a box of oranges several months ago from a guy that came to our door. They were pretty darn tasty, too.

When you say "door," you mean "flap," right? ;)
