He was awesome at Rice, which is a hard place to be awesome at, he was awesome at TCU and they really hated to lose him, he will be awesome in Austin. Had the chance to sit at a dinner table with him back in the day, he is incredibly..."sharp", "with it", whatever you want to call him. He has fans in the forefront of his mind, unlike certain Steves.
Super excited if CDC can pull it off and no reason to believe he can't. Going back for a handful of games as an alumni, gameday was about as mundane as it could possibly get. Grant it we've been awful on the field as well but just no draw whatsoever to packing up and spending the money to attend a game. Got stuck in horrible traffic on the way there, literally got seated right at kickoff just to get blasted on the field and by Godzillatron, and get stuck in even worse traffic on the way out. A few more tidbits from 247 this morning: - Del Conte is also looking (possibly inside the entrance to the north end of DKR—currently a food court) for a place to house a Texas football “museum” celebrating the rich history of Longhorns’ football. This came after Del Conte learned UT has hundreds of gridiron artifacts locked away in storage units. - And in the coming months, Texas will select a third-party business partner to construct and operate a new basketball arena on campus to replace the Erwin Center, which will be torn down and replaced with a $180 million building that will serve as the facade to the new UT Dell Medical Center. - Del Conte threw out the suggestion of UT’s new hoops arena being a “mini Staples Center” with seating that would get 10,000 fans as close to the floor as possible.
I could only imagine what they have stored away. I interned at the Stark Center on the 9th floor right when in opened in 2010 and the stuff they had in the back was crazy. Most of it was related to weight lifting and fitness, but also had a lot of sports memorabilia. Had a Babe Ruth bat just sitting on a shelf and something that I thought was crazy was the ENTIRE collection of Sports Illustrated and Muscle & Fitness.
https://www.statesman.com/news/loca...l-conte-appeals-pride/ek8wHVXFEzkfkn1URZN0NO/ HOUSTON — It’s quite odd to hear an athletic director implore — check that, practically beg — the fan base to wear their school colors. It’s especially odd to hear that from Texas’ Chris Del Conte, who oversees a college athletic behemoth that sells more T-shirts than anyone else. Yet that’s what he’s done thus far on the “This is Texas Tour.” Sure, his comments about the gameday atmosphere have drawn rave reviews. Fans love that he wants to remove cars from San Jacinto Blvd. and turn it into a “carnival” he’s calling Bevo Blvd. Spontaneous applause breaks out whenever Del Conte mentions eliminating the in-game “weather report.” No offense, Scott Fisher.
Huge recruiting weekend for Herman and Co. On top of getting a 5* OT, we also picked up an up and coming prospect at TE, another position of need.Looks like we may have also gotten our QB for the 2020 class.
4-1 good guys last I checked. Hard to listen to the game with Roger Clemens in the booth doing his usual "Look At Roger Clemens" routine.
At least one of our baseball teams can finish a game. Texas moves on to the Regional Final, 8-3 over Texas A&M
Ole Miss lost today. If they lose again tonight then UT will host the super regional next weekend in Austin.
Herman picked up a big time WR in Jake Smith over the weekend. Four star prospect is the 2nd highest player out of AZ. https://247sports.com/college/texas...ake-Smith-commits-to-UT-Tom-Herman--118705990 Few non-UT but relatable notes. A&M picked up Kenyon Green, 5* OL and #1 player in the state. Former A&M and current OU QB Kyler Murray was selected in the 1st round of the MLB draft tonight. Apparently he will play football this year but we’ll see, is set to make $10M should he decide to leave.
We’ll be hosting a super regional this weekend. As much as I usually love watching UT baseball games in person, I will gladly enjoy this one from Haymaker or my own home. Since these are NCAA events and not UT, there is no beer being sold at Disch-Faulk and I’d need a bath tub of aloe vera after a game in this heat in the GA section.
More info on CDC's restructuring per Chip Brown. Glad to see they are finally doing away with the men's/women's AD, never understood the model. And depending on how much you read into Chip Brown's articles, Plonsky was seemingly a black hole with progressing the department.
