It's early, but time to go ON THE RECORD! Will Trump face a primary challenge for the GOP nomination? If you vote yes, put a name out there.
Remember, the problem with a primary challenge against the president is if you take a shot at the King you better not miss. Anyone who primaries him and loses is basically done in the GOP.
I would ordinarily vote yes, but I increasingly believe that trump won't be around in 2020 in a capacity that would allow him to run for the office. To hell with it. I'll vote yes in the poll, but my caveat is here in this post. Yes, he'll have a primary opponent, and more than one, if he is actually running for reelection. And damn, it IS early!
Depends on whether they keep Congress in '18, or if Rex can line up those drilling concessions fast enough. They couldn't primary Ford and he was un-elected while pardoning Nixon and overseeing the Fall of Saigon in the middle of double-digit inflation.
I only give Trump ~10% chance of running for re-election. If I'm wrong about this, he will obviously get "primaried".
He's been president a little over 6 months and seems to hate it. (How many presidents have you seen hold campaign rallies AFTER an election just to keep himself pumped up?) When the time comes, Trump will be older, exhausted and planning his escape. "My work is done!"
I think there is some chance he'll be forced out before his first term is up, a better chance he won't want to run again, and a near certainty that there will be an attempt to primary him. And I think it a virtual impossibility he wins the general again (recognizing, of course, he's proved me outlandishly wrong before).
I would certainly hope he'd be primaried if he runs for re-election. While he managed to win against a garbage candidate like Hillary, I don't think he could beat ANYONE else and I'd imagine the DNC would learn their lesson and run a more competent candidate the next time around. That said, I think the most likely scenario is that he doesn't run for re-election.
He looks absolutely miserable and it's only been six months. There's no way the wants to do this until he's almost 80 (if his horrible diet doesn't catch up to him by then).
Donald Trump never wanted the hassle of being president, he just wanted to be able to say that he was President, and mission accomplished. No need for 4 more years.
Republicans Make Moves for 2020 as Trump Doubts Grow IMO, Kasich is definitely going to run and there will certainly be others. I think Jeff Flake is positioning himself as the anti-Trump republican...even if it means he loses his seat next year. It might not be as big of a GOP field as they had going into 2016, but there's going to be challengers.
