What are some great vocal performances/songs? I have: Louis Armstrong - "Wonderful World" Michael Buble - "Home" and "Feeling Good" Sam Cooke - "You Send Me" Terry Jack - "Seasons in the Sun" Barry Manilow - "Love is a Many Splendor Thing" ??? (Not Josh Groban) - "Vincent" Who has the best vocal version of "Summertime?"
Bono - "Bad" Actually, the whole Unforgettable Fire album. IMO that's when Bono was at his peak vocally. Stevie Wonder - "Overjoyed" Key change every few measures. Prince - "Kiss" Love the falsetto, especially when he starts screaming at the end. Ben Folds Five - "Missing The War" Killer 3-part harmony, can't believe they pull it off live. Sting - "Roxanne" Seriously, have you ever heard anyone else pull that song off besides Sting? Otis Redding - "Try a Little Tenderness"
Eddie Murphy in 48 hours "Summertime" - Billy Stewart, I've metioned this before. His version is so far out there vocally and yet so powerful. One of the most underrated covers of all time. "Stay in my Corner" - The Dells "Bridge over Troubled Water" - Aretha Franklin, of all her vocal tracks this is my favorite. "Anyone who had a Heart" - Dionne Warwick "Beside You" - Van Morrisson "Pirates" - Rickie Lee Jones
Silence - Sarah Mclachlan.....one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard in my life. the remix version by delerium. I will always love you - whitney htown Jan Johnston's vocals for Bt's Remember, Dreaming, and Running Down the way up are splendid as well.
Corelli in Aida Carreras and Capucilli in Simon Boccanegra Carreras and Caballe in Tosca Christoff in Don Carlo Sandor Konya in Meistersinger George London in Die Walkure
Percy Sledge - When a man loves a woman Chet Baker - My funny valentine Ben Harper - Please bleed (live)
Love that album (man I just dated myself with that album stuff). Also love "Til Tomorrow" on that one. Joni Mitchell: "The Circle Game" Judy Collins: "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" Dan Fogleberg: "Leader of the Band" The Kingston Trio: "Scotch and Soda" Tony Bennett: "I Left My Heart in San Francisco"
NOTHING I have evear heard comes close to this live gem: Sarah Vaughan, Speak Low, Live at the London House, Chicago, 1958 Sarah was the master.
I'm sorry and I know different strokes for different folks, but I find that performance annoying because he embellishes the last note when there is really no need for it in the first place, IMO and he really doesn't have that great of a voice to be wanting to do things like that in the first place. Sorry coma
this is all so obviously objective. for me, when the bases are loaded and i need someone to hit a grand slam, i cue janis and she belts "get it while you can" out of the park every time.
