The Doom III thread got me looking into getting this card, but when I search for it, about 4 different brands come up for it: EVGA Chaintech Asus MSI What's the difference?? Are they all the exact same card or are some better quality?? The prices differ in each.
Basically you will have to look at the specs for each and see where they differ. Nvidia makes the chips and other manufactureres set them in the boards and stamp their name on them. You probably just need to pick one you think you may want and research it.
Look into the ATI X800. Less power requirements, (one molex plug instead of two for the 6800, also the 6800 recommends a 460W power supply I think, the ATI will work with 300W), only takes up one slot instead of two, and it's faster. Also, PCI express is the next big thing for video cards. The 6800 and X800 will probably be the last top end cards to come in AGP format. If you plan on upgrading or buying a PC soon wait and buy the PCI express versions of these cards with the new computers that have a PCI express slot. Dell has already switched over to PCI express with their 8400 and XPS series computers. If your not planning on upgrading for a while and just want to buy the card you'll be okay for now because the speed difference between AGP and PCI express cards is minimal right now but that will not be the case in the future. IMHO ASUS is the best brand to go with for the NVIDIA cards.
