Many of you might not know, but I am in Culinary School to become a chef.

Cooking is my life passion; it shadows over any sports team or any belated cause that i might agree with. Saying this, I have found a bit of a catch twenty-two about the whole situation.

I am only twenty years old and have little work experience in my chosen field. Besides the two years of management experience at Jack-in-the-Box. I have tried for the last 2 months to find a job more suiting my skills. During my last interview for an anonymous resturaunt; I waited fifteen minutes for the kitchen manager to come over to talk to me. Then, without even sitting down with me and asking me any questions, flat out told me, " You don't have enough experience, I can't help you. Thanks for coming though and good luck." Ugh! That really was almost unbearable and thats where I was questioning myself, "If I can't find a job at a resturaunt, how do I get experience?" Since then I have recieved some good news.

Tonight I was part of The Epicurian Night; a sort of who's who of Galveston resturaunts and vendors. I have become very close to the chef in charge of our academy and he knows how much I want to get started in a gourmet setting and away from quick serve. Well he has certain clout in the community and graciously introduced me to several people last night that might be interested.

The one that has me most exicted is at The Tremont House near The Strand. "Chef" introduced me to the executive chef at the Merchant Prince resturaunt. He said from what he has heard from "Chef" he would like to get me in and sort of take me under his wing. Mind you I am no slouch in the kitchen, but this could be the opportunity of a lifetime that will open up numerous doors for me.

And I feel that I should share this with my fellow BBS'ers that are almost like extended family to me. Even though I have never met any of you fellows or fellas.:D I have been here for awhile under numerous handles and enjoy our community and thank Clutch and all of the crew even Castor, you sly stro's fan you, for all that they provide.

I would just like it if you could all wish me well or luck or whatever you do, that I get this opportunity. Thank you all, and I will let you know how it goes.

congrats, but when you say the passion of cooking outweighs all love of any sports, what do you classify Iron Chef? Is it a sport, is just a cooking show, one of the many paradoxial questions.

Congradulations and good luck with everything.

I really think that whole experience thing is BS. someone needs to take the time and teach people so they gain that knowledge.

If it was me i would like to be proud and know that i took someone under my wing and i taught them what they know.

It will be passed on from you to others in a endless chain....

    Either way good luck

Today I went up to the Tremont and talked to the Executive Chef in length. He showed me around the kitchen and showed me their catering areas. And if my paperwork goes through HR; he want's me aboard. Thanks for all the well wishes.:D:D

I consider a competition, not really a sport

i wouldn't know. :) But I guess we could find out.

First I have to respond just because you mentioned me by name. I really do wish you the best. I am a closet chef. I love to cook and would have probably thouroughly enjoyed that profession had I taken that route. Good luck. I am in Galveston occasionally so I may have to stop in and see if your as good as you advertise :)

Way to go man! One time, I ruined a pan cooking pancakes - so that tells you the kind of skills I have in the kitchen. Cooking, being a good musician, architecture - all skills I wish I was good at.
