Has anyone on here been baptized in another church and then chosen to become a member of the Catholic church? Just wondering what the steps are in case I decide to do so. Thanks!
First, you have to agree to be incredibly judgemental about marriage, forcefully pushing your ideas of divorce repeatedly on everyone. You also have to agree to drink a lot. If you were about 20 years younger, it would only involve letting them touch your "happy place" a few times.
I hope you're not doing this because of marriage and I REALLY hope you're not doing this because it's a marriage into a Vietnamese family. Vietnamese churches = teh suck
I think there are 5 rituals you must complete: Ritual #1 - A take a Leap of Faith. If you survive a five-story plunge, your character will be proven. Ritual #2 - The Crossing of the Desert. Ritual #3 - The Unblinking Eye. Ritual #4 - Wreck of the Hesperus. Ritual #5 - The Paddling of the Swollen Ass, with paddles
I was a practicioner of witchcraft, then I became an atheist, then I was engaged to a catholic. Her family told me I had to become a catholic. I refused and said I would not become nothing religious. The priest gave me a compromise and I was married in the catholic church. I just attended a bunch of religious classes and then the priest said I could get married in the church. I didn't have to become a Christian, a catholic or anything. I don't know if that was a local rule or general.
other way around buddy i was baptized catholic when i was an infant ,, currently a member of a different church.. whew!!!! that was a close one...
Shoulda known. Thanks guys. If anyone has any serious responses, please e-mail me through the board. Mods, feel free to lock.
Ok, I'm sure you take some classes, then take a vow of faith and that's about it. My dad did it when I was aroun 12 or so. And my sister in law did it in the past few years. There isn't that much to it.
Just to let you know, the Catholic church recoginzes other chruch's baptisims. Pretty much all Catholic churches have some type of adult confimation programs. Depending on the church it can take from a couple of months to just over a year. Heres a link to a one churches program: http://www.saintedward.com/aff/
Glad we could help Rocketman...Although it really doesn't matter, because everybody knows that only Mormons get into heaven...
I married a catholic so i had to take some classes (pre caenan or something like that). Those consisted of a few meetings with some catholic couples who talked about how serious marriage is, what kind of committment is takes etc. Seriously boring but overall harmless. Didn't have to take any kind of vow but that may be due to the fact that the priest we met with was very cool with my heretical status . Of course, the guy who married us was a hardass traditionalist (my wife still laughs when I refer to him as Preacher Dick although I don't think they call them preachers in Catholicism), but the other guy signed off on my indoctrination...er, education so there was nothing he could do.
C'mon man, you don't wanna convert to Catholocism, you wanna me a Member of the Tribe. Check it out..... We control the world economy We control Hollywood and the Media If it wasn't for us, the "Protocols of Zion" would have never been written We've got the best food We make you drink gnarly Mogen David wine which is 85% sugar You get extra days off that nobody else gets You get to say cool stuff like "Oy Vey" and call people "schmucks" Let me know if you are interested, and I'll tell you about the initiation ceremony. You were in a fraternity at UT, right?
Thanks. Any other parts of my life you got figured out, or anyone else's for that matter? You sure are quick to judge why people do things and how stupid they are for doing it. That sounds like what we went through before we were married. I actually enjoyed the meetings with our sponsor couple, though. I like cheeseburgers too much.
I'll let you slide on that one. I like them too. Hell, my Dad is Jewish (duh) and he eats more pork than you could possibly imagine. And don't get me started on my shellfish fixation!
