It just stopped working yesterday. I can't move within it once it is loaded. I cannot download email. I've cleaned and defragmented the disk but no help.

Any other ideas for a non-technical sort of computer jockey?

If it was recent, you might be able to use the latest restore point.

I've seen that save a bunch of people.

Not sur eabout Outlook express, but I have had some problems with Outlook doing something similar. The problem I had was caused by someone sending me mail with some huge files attached. It kept causing outlook to freeze up. To fix it I actually did have to log in with webmail and delete the offending email, and that fixed it.

    Good suggestion

If you see the message at the bottom that it is receiving email, this might be something to look for.

I forgot to mention that I tried that first. Then I did the disk cleanup and de-frag. I just tried the restore trick again and... nothing. I'm screwed apparently.

I can access the webmail at RR but my folders are NOT there and any email that has been opened is NOT there. I didn't know that was how it worked!

The OE pops onscreen but it won't download any new email and it won't allow me to move within what is download. The mouse is complete unresponsive. If I move up to Send/Receive and click I get the hourglass running endlessly-- minutes anyway-- to no avail.

I think a smoker snuck in here... :D

Perhaps you can boot to the XP cd and run repair.

in case it's OE that got corrupted somehow, i suggest pulling out the e-mail database files, then uninstalling and reinstalling OE, checking if it works..and then putting the e-mail db files back in. Then you'll see if it's just an e-mail or something else doing it

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to mess around with it gingerly myself through the weekend and pull my hourly guy in on Monday if I'm still frustrated. I wish I knew more about this stuff.
