I have a feeling that Ming will only be as good as Rik Smits. They are both the same type of player, only thing Ming may be better at is shotblocking. Other than that I dont really see Ming as a superstar. I hope Im wrong but I doubt it will happen.

Are you kidding me? Yao had 13 points, 11 boards, and 6 blocks against some of the best players in the NBA and he is only a rookie! If those stupid guards on his team had fed him the ball he would've had atleast 20 points. You must not have been watching the game at all.

I still can't BElieve the stupid comparisons 2 Ric Smits by alot of people:mad: I've seen Rik or Ric play over da years and da only similarities r their closeness in height. I watched da game on TV on espn and nba TV, and yMING looks like DA REAL DEAL!!!:) I can't WAIT 2 see him on TV wit my DIRECTV nba league pass!!;) If U notice during most of da game , da NBA all-stars didn't really challenge him in da paint FEARING of EATING a round leather object :D FOR All U yMING haters .... U can kiss da Houston Rockets 'RED GLARE!!! ....and don't let da door hit u on da way!!! :) And by da way.....Tom Tolbert wasn't much of a player in da nba, he just kept da bench warm!! ( this dude is one da many clown "anti-ming " commentators from espn, too bad their team, the Knicks, SUCKS!!!!:D GO ROCKETS!!!!

yMING dynasty just got underway! R.O.Y.!!!

I believe that Yao Ming has more potential than Rik Smits. First let me make it clear that Smits was a good center for about 10 years and would be a top three center in today's NBA. However, I believe that Yao is already a more complete player than Smits and will only get better. Smits was never a strong rebounder, never much of a shot blocker, and never a good passer. Yao is ALREADY better than Rik in all these areas. Smits entered the NBA when he was 25 and was bothered by injuries throughout his career. Yao is 21 now and still has a lot of development to do. By the time Yao enters his prime, he will be a much better player than Smits ever was. The comparison of Yao to Rik Smits, IMO, is due to the lack of comparison. We have never had a player like Yao Ming in the NBA.

    ditto and enough said.....

to add to it...Ming has not had the coaching or guard support yet and he puts up smits numbers plus 6 rebounds and plus about 5 blocked shots.....this kid is already as good as Smits in comparison lingo and better in the D area. With proper coaching, experience and a talented squad around him he should development quickly. I expect about 12-14/6/3 his first year in the league, which is very respectable. You see he can knock down the J with anyone in front of him, so expect him to get at least 8-10 points in Js alone. mix in some dunk feeds from Francis and Mooch, combined with some turn arounds and some trash points and he could very easily surprise us with 17 per
