Just wondering if you are okay. Hopefully you have electricity to see this... but maybe not. I know the storm (Hurricane Frances, now a cat 2) is just kind of buffeting the coast down there... And they say elec. is out for 460,000... Hope we hear from you soon. Prayin' for ya'll.
Well, not sure if I can post this in this thread, but I am also somewhat wondering if MacBeth is okay...I know I sometimes made fun of him, but he seemed like a nice guy and he posted something about health issues...and then he has stopped posting for a while, I think...I hope everything is alright.
Oh wow, thanks for the concern! I'm fine; the hurricane was more of a dud than anything. Virtually no rain and just gusty wind. We're very fortunate that it didn't hit directly and it looks to be weakening (and has). There's really no damage at all here on campus, just a few palm branches scattered on the ground. Apparently over a million are without power, but those must be farther north. This structure has generators anyway so I doubt we will be without power thankfully. Now that I'm looking outside, the winds are starting to pick up, but not severe. The radar has a couple of outer bands of rain in south FL, but it doesn't appear to be much. I'm sure if it was a direct hit or if anyone is about an hour north of Ft. Lauderdale then it must be quite severe. I've taken a couple of MPEGs I'll host later, but it's basically just the wind. Ivan might take the same track, but won't reach the islands east of Cuba until the end of next week. As it looks now, it could dodge FL and sneak into the Gulf. Thanks so much for being concerned! I was actually surprised my parents weren't more worried, especially the Jewish mother, haha. She's like 'well those dorms are safe so you'll be fine. Now I'm headed to California'. (My parents were actually in Houston the past couple days and it was the first time my mom's been back there since we left 5 years ago; she hate Houston when we lived there, but she was quite impressed with everything, especially the MetroRail, downtown, the beautification, and even the mild weather). Thanks again and good luck for the other Floridians braving this storm!
Yeah, where is Macbeth. I always liked reading his "columns" about the Rockets. They had a sort of folksy storytelling charm to them, and was always an interesting read. He went from only knowing how to "Post New Thread" to completely falling off the face of the board. I hope he's okay.
Glad to see your alright down there... NOW LET'S PLAY SOME FOOTBALL!! Hope the damage to the power grid is repaired quickly for all of those without right now... I have relatives in Jacksonville & Panama City, but I think it will miss both of them.... rain maybe, but that shouldn't be too bad.
Mooch, What did you think of the U of A game? I thought the young players did great, especially frosh wideout Kevin Brown and defensive end Wallace Gilberry. They looked very sound, didn't shoot themselves in the foot and I think 7 wins is a definite possibility provided they stay injury-free. I hope the storm wasn't too bad for you!
Man, it sucked because I didn't get to see it since it was on PPV/Gameplan; the first game I haven't seen in person or watched on television since like the UCF homecoming loss...when DuBose was still coaching. Now, the Castille brothers, Keith Brown, and Ken Darby looked phenomenal (from what I heard and read). This is still a very young team, but the depth at all positions is impressive, QB especially. Croyle was apparently amazing in preseason and the former Miami leftover as a backup is good to have. Add LeRon McClain to that and it's a well-sound team. The new strength training facilities and practice fields are top-notch. All updated or new athletic facilities are incredible. The football field was also redesigned, but I haven't seen pictures of it; it's supposed to have the new circle 'A' logo at midfield and crimson lettering in the endzones. Oh yeah, and Brent Schaeffer was incredible last night for Tennessee.
