I'm thinking of asking the old man for one for this Christmas.

Does anyone here have any experience with these things? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for specifically?

    Recommendations or warnings?

I have determined so far that I want 64 MB internal memory with some sort of rechargable battery, since they seem to burn through regular AA's pretty fast (ie: one battery only lasts 11 hours).

The Rio 800 is good and can come with at least 128MB. One thing I would suggest, is to get a player like the Rio that will play audio books from audible.com. As a matter of fact, I believe audible is currently running a deal where if you subscribe to their service (I pay $12.95 per month), you will receive a free Rio 600. You have to commit for a year. The fee allows you to download 2 audible books a month. The only drawback to that is the Rio 600 only comees with 32 MB.

Although... the IPOD does appear very cool...but alas, my Apple days have been over for a few years now. I do still have my Apple ][ from 1978.

I would wait until next Chistmas, next birthday, whatever...

The Apple iPod looks solid, but can only be used on Apple software...for now that is.

In, other words, unless you have an Apple computer, the most memory you could get on a compact mp3 player(that I have seen) is 64 mb.

    10-15 songs at most.
