I want to buy a cheap laptop (and a projector) which would exclusively be used for running and projecting powerpoint presentations at small workshop/seminar settings.

Any ideas about where to go and what to get? eBay? Reputable Vendors? Dell refurbs? Else? Help!

Dell would be your best bet in my opinion. The Dell 1100MP Multimedia Projector lists for $699, but you can get all kinds of stacking coupons on the net for Dell that will bring that price way down. I'd even browse ebay for dell coupons and you may save a few hundred bucks for a two dollar coupon code. I saved 435 bucks on my new LCD TV when I bought a coupon on eBay for two bucks. The same can be said for a cheap laptop, you can get a Dell Latitude for around 500-600 bucks that will do what you need it to do. You could always get refurbed ones from delloutlet.com to save a few more bucks or find the one you want on dell and then look for a similar one on eBay.

I have about 10 users (outside sales) that have the Dell 1100MP and it works just fine for your standard conference room PowerPoint presentations. I'd say for about $1000 you could score yourself a great presentation package.
