http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20011210/od/turner_dc.html can someone who knows anything about art, explain this one to me? Thanks
You know I'd like to personally shoot the people who judge this thing in the leg (no killing or anything) and call it "man in extreme pain b/c of metal in the leg." I was glad to see the prize was only $28,600 otherwise I may have vomited all over the keyboard and my computer. While I know they do it just to be stupid on some level, how can you be over 20 and still take yourself seriously. Hell right now I'm sitting in "dorm room with trash on one table." Why don't they come give me a prize.
It looks like one of those paper fold thingies that kids used to make in elementary school that you used to tell the future...or did it tell which classmate had a crush on you? Couldn't remember which... Ahh, the good ole' days...
youve got to admit that is one artistically lacking room which, i guess, is what makes it art i dont see it as art myself, however i can see how others might...it doesnt deserve 28.6k though
That entire article just proves that rich people are stupid beyond logical comprehension. Who in the hell would buy an elephant dung or pickled animal carcass and call it art??? Only a stupid rich person.
As the son of an artist (see signature), I find this thing to be just about the stupidest thing imaginable. Not only is it not art, it isn't even '''engaging, wide-ranging and fresh,"' as they claim. Artists have been doing the same stupid stunts (and calling it art) for most of the last century. There is nothing new about this. The elephant dung was more new and even that wasn't new.
NOTHING will ever replace painting, drawing & sculpture. NOTHING,NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, I SAY... That guys empty room is for the froo-froos dressed all in black talking about it at stuffy coktail parties. There went his 15 minutes. B-O-R-I-N-G
Its not art mc mark. Its a piece of ****. I think its bull**** how artists can abuse the freedom of creating art. We had to go to the Meniel (?) Museum for art class, and there was this square of canvas with white paint. It was called landscape #11 or something. THATS NOT ART. I could take a **** on a XBOX and take a picture of it and it would be better art than that stuff mcmark posted.
I respect everyone's opinion here and generally agree, but all this hatred seems more like jealousy than disgust to me. If you really think you could do better, than go out and do it. Apparently (at least in this case), there is a lot of money to be made in "scams" such as these. As far as being works of beauty, I definitely don't consider those pieces art. They do, however, seem artistic, especially in their ability to inspire so many others (as evidenced by the reaction on this board) in some way or another.
People should go see or read the play "Art". It won the Pulitzer a few years ago and deals with this very issue. I think the Alley did it a couple of seasons ago. Did anybody see it?
This is the kind of stupidity that makes me laugh at some of this modern art crap. I'm no art-lover and quite frankly find artsy fartsy stuff boring, but this takes the cake. Maybe someone can help me out here. When I was a kid I once saw an oil painting (pretty huge I believe) that looked something like this : imagine a square which is half black and half red then plop a black dot on it. That was it. I think it was selling for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Insane. I shoulda been an arteeeeeest.
Racist remarks could inspire outrage in many on this board and elsewhere. Does that make them artistic.
