It's being rumored that the Clippers would be willing to trade Odom & Maggette for a chance to draft either Jason Williams or Dejaun Wagner. The only thing we know for sure, is that we currently have the 6th pick & could drop as low as the 9th pick in the upcoming draft. If we end up with the 6-9 spot, then we will, for all practical purposes, be out of the running for a trade of Odom & Rashard will probably cost too much to acquire in a sign & trade. So, that would mean we'll have to look for other options, if we want to upgrade the SF position. Thus, the question: How about Eddie Robinson? Since Chicago acquired Rose, I assume they would like to get Robinson's salary off the books. He's been playing very few minutes since they acquired Rose, so I'm assuming that he's not in their long term plans & is making too much money to be a backup. He's been injured this year, but, based on his career stats, has been relatively healthy his 2 previous years. He's 6'9" 205 lbs & is the ideal size for a SF. In the last two years, he's only taken 9 3pt shots, but has gone 4-9, for a 44% shooting average. His FG percentages have been very good at 53% & 55% his first 2 years. He's only hitting 45% this year, but I'd blame that on his injury. I've never seen him play, so I don't know anything about him, other than what the stats say. I'd like to find out what those that have seen him play think of him. Would he fit our team or not? How's his defense? How's his quickness? If we could work a trade for him, we should be able to pick up a center with our 6-9 pick. Any thoughts on Robinson?
I really, truly thought the Rockets were going to look at him last offseason. He might have been asking for too much money. I was hoping he would be Anderson's replacement, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way. He has a nice jump shot and pretty athletic, but he's also pretty weak. If it helps to compare him to someone, I would probably say he's a taller version of Rip Hamilton. But I don't watch very many Hornets or Bulls games, so I am by no means an ERob expert. I wouldn't give up very much for him, but if the Rockets were to do a multiplayer deal with the Bulls, would anyone rather have Best than Moochie?
E-Rob is a good to great backup SF, and is a average to below average starting SF. He also doesn't have much shooting range, a must in our offensive system at SF. Thanks but not thanks.
I would. Best is only 1 year older than Moochie & is a better 3pt shooter. Their stats are pretty much the same after that. The problem with acquiring Best, is it would have to be a sign & trade. He's an unrestricted free agent after this year & has already expressed an interest in going to Miami.
I would take Best any day over Mooch. I think Best is very underrated and will probably end up as a pretty good starter somewhere next year. I'll pass on E-Rob. He was a pretty good sub last year but I thought he was a little overrated. Didn't he get a pretty big contract too? Neither his defense or offense is anything to write home about. I'd think just sticking with TMo and trying to develop his game would be the safer, cheaper bet.
I think people have been overrating Eddie Robinson for a while now. He's a terrific athletic specimen. But he can't shoot. And unless you're like Marion, you can't play the SF position without a good shot. Particularly in the Rockets' system. And there are no guarantees whatosever that he'll ever acquire decent range. Many people seem to prefer to take athletes with poor fundamentals over average athletes with superb fundamentals, because many assume that skills can be "taught," but that athleticism can't. I don't think this is necessarily true. There are many "freak-like" athletes that just never develop the requisite set of skills. If it were true, Harold Miner would currently be the best player in the NBA .
eddie had a high FG% because most of his shots where Dunks or lay ups. i think his fg% dropped this year because now he has to create his own shot. i think he is just not strong enough and he can't shoot. so i don't want him. sorry. he is not a great defender, and we need a sf who can play defense and has a nice outside shot.
haven, I am in agreement with some of your points. But Marion has a really good midrange game. He's not a three point shooter, but from 20 and in, he hits jumpshots with regularity. What are you seeing that makes you believe he has no perimeter game?
No... I saw him play last year for Cha, where he had to rely on Cha's guards to push the ball up the floor to set Robinson up with dunks/layups or wide open 10 ft jumpers. He is a great uptempo player, when combined with a PG who can run. However, he has poor ball handling skills and can't put the ball on the floor in the half court setting. Moreover, he doesn't have very much range on his jumper. I will say he can play D like a mofo. He's in a sense, a poor man's Marion.
I haven't seen too much of Ricky Davis, but from what I gathered he is very similar to Robinson except Davis might have better ball skills?
