Alright, so my car is a Volvo S80 and it has a dvd based GPS system. However, it is seriously outdated (4 years.) However, when I went to Volvo's site, they want $200 for an updated GPS DVD, which I think is ridiculous. Hell, I could buy a new Garmin for that amount, and it updates automatically. Anyone know of compatible alternative products? TIA
That's the problem with built-in car-based units... the updating is a rip-off. The one for my car used to cost $180 or something I think. And I have no idea of an alternative solution other than having another nav unit like a Garmin which would look kind of silly, I guess.
Do they have the DVD's on torrent? I've never looked but you would think it would be pretty easy to rip it.
Possibly. But everytime I've tried to set up torrents on my computer it has crashed it, so I don't download those anymore.
Look around on some Volvo forums to see if copying the disc works. If it does, find someone in the Houston area on the forums that will let you copy it. A lot of times the DVD is the same, regardless of model.
