    In response to all these Manny navel gazing bands lets talk about a different genre of music.

    I was going to call this thread "Celtic Punk" but with bands like Gogol Bordello punk has groan by embracing traditional folk sounds and themes of a variety of ethnicities so I think a more encompassing term is Ethnic Punk.

    Here are some of my examples:

    I've heard other ethnic punk from places like Brazil, Spain, Turkey and Israel but don't know some the titles or bands.

    Is Me First and The Gimme Gimmes really considered ethnic? I thought they were a punk "supergroup" that did country/western covers. Either way, I really like their stuff. We have a few of their CDs on our music server here at work and they do some really cool stuff with some old country classics.

    I don't think its so much who they are but that they are taking a traditional Appalachian folk song and doing it in a punk style. Granted they play a lot of popular American standards punk style I was using them as an example of how Punk has adopted various regional / ethnic styles.

    If you guys have not been to a Gogol Bordello show, they are playing up in austin this sunday at Stubbs. Saw them at the meridian last year, it was a great show.
