http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117907033?categoryid=20&cs=1 'Shawshank' comes back Darabont's King pic celebrates 10th anniversary By SCOTT HETTRICK "The Shawshank Redemption" will get a limited theatrical rerelease in eight cities for two weeks this fall in celebration of the film's 10th anniversary and to promote Warner Home Video's two-disc special DVD edition debuting on October 5. The two-week theatrical run of "Shawshank" will begin Sept. 24 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle and Austin. Darabont said the DVD will include a new audio and video transfer of the film and two documentaries running a collective 90 minutes. A limited edition box set ($44.99) will also include film historian Mark Kermode's book about the movie's production and popularity and the soundtrack CD of Thomas Newman's score. First off, I can't believe it's been ten years since this movie came out. Of course, since like most fans of the flick, I didn't see it until years later on cable television, it hasn't been ten years since I first saw the movie. I do think it's cool they're doing a new DVD with some extras. Though since I already have the DVD, I'm not going to be able to buy the new one (I will not support double dipping).
Well, for $45, you get a book and the soundtrack CD along with the 2 DVD set. And that's the list price, so I'm sure it will have a cheaper street price.
I never got what was so good about that film. I saw it when it came out and haven't seen it since. Perhaps I'll see it in a theatre during this rerelease and will finally "get it"... but I'll probably just be disappointed again. But hey, some people don't "get" Blade Runner.
Great...as if they don't show this damn movie on TNT/TBS enough as it is. I swear it's on every other week!
There are few movies that I enjoy as much as Shawshank. When I was a kid in the 80s and I read Different Seasons by King, I was amazed by the story. The movie version was better than I expected. While I would not buy this movie for $44, I think it is waaaaaay more than an Escape From Alcatraz clone.
