Whats the best way to get a plane ticket canceled free of charge? Death in the family, sick?

as far as I know, I don't thinl you can get a refund

You would probably have to get a copy of the death certificate to show the airline.

Most airlines will allow you to receive "credit" for however much your flight cost... in which case, assuming you're flying again at some point in the future, is like a refund.
