So listen: I'm trying to make something with christmas lights except I only want to use around 5 of the lights of the entire strand. I cut them down to 5 lights and rewired them correctly and they blew when I plugged it in. I re-cut another strand of 5 and put the two wires to a 9volt battery, the little strand worked! Cool. Obviously the plug for the big strand that says 125V lets too much juice into the little 5 light strand and blows it but a mere 9 volts doesn't My question is are there plugs that only let the little amount of juice I need? Like 12volt plug or something? OR There are some fuses in the 125V plug itself. Do I change those down to a smaller weight fuse? thanks & have a good evening.
You can probably get a device to lower down the current and voltage coming through to the lights...I forget the exact name, but it involves a step-down resistor, I believe. Not sure where you'd find such a thing, but an electric supply store couldn't hurt.
they also make battery powered lights like that. Not sure where you can get them in the middle of the summer but they only have 5-6 lights on them. You may want to call places like hobby lobby or gardenridge and such they may keep them in stock because they are also used occasionally at weddings. CK
You can get one of those universal AC adapters that has numerous plugs and numerous output voltages....you'll just have to snip the plugs though.
