Ausmus?

Yes, Ausmus. The catcher entered Sunday's game sixth in the league with a .342 average and fourth with a .457 on-base percentage. He's leading all National League catchers in hitting, on-base percentage and walks.

Garner will base his decisions on logic over emotions, but having managed Ausmus in both Detroit and Houston, the skipper most certainly has a soft spot for the veteran.

Of course, he would never admit it. Garner jokingly guaranteed that nothing would stand between Ausmus and his yearly All-Star hiatus to Martha's Vineyard.

"Baloney!" Garner said, laughing. "He's not stopping in Pittsburgh. I've got the hammer on him, and I'm going to squeeze."

Of course none of us expect him to keep this up all season, but if you put the 2nd half of last season together with this April, that's a mighty impressive run for the heralded "automatic out" that so many of us have spent so much time moaning and whining about.

I don't think anyone expected this kind of offensive output from Ausmus this year. And he has been the best catcher in the NL so far this year and I would love for him to get a spot on the all-star roster.

The way Ausmus handles pitchers,anytime he bats arouind .300 should merit automatic consideration.

Brad Ausmus is hitting the ball very well right now. If Phil Garner decides to pick anyone else, he needs to be in trouble. I think Brad Ausmus is surprising a lot of the douwbters! Maybe I should write a profesional letter to Phil Garner to put Brad Ausmus in the ALL-Star Game representing the Houston Astros!

I believe Brad Ausmus should also start the All Star Game, because not only can Brad Ausmus hit, Brad Ausmus is a master at handling pitchers and their fragile egos. I actively campaigned against dumping Brad Ausmus last year, but Brad Ausmus' recent play has made see the light. Go Astros... and go Brad Ausmus.

It is nice to see Ausmus hitting.

He usually has this hot streak during Spring Training.
