I have an all day interview coming up with AMD for an engineering position. This is my first all day interview. I have had a lot interviews but not an all day one. Has any one interviewed with them? or anyone have some good advice for an all day interview.

I've had all days at Google and MIT Lincoln Labs (I currently work at TI Houston).

I suggest drinking a lot of water and taking restroom breaks after each person (seriously). You need to get out of the room and rest your mind and your thoughts. Secondly, should drink the water to keep your voice clear.

Sleep early the night before and eat a big breakfast.

Otherwise, prep a few days before on the basics of engineering (circuits etc) and then forget about it. Take a day where you don't do anything prepping. You'll be fine.

Try to get some exercise before the interview. Something to get your heart rate up. This will help insure you're mentally alert. Also, grape juice has been shown to encourage greater brain activity (something to do with electrolytes). Other than that, stay relaxed, and try to be mindful that they're trying to figure out how your mind works so try to think about everything critically (but don't overthink and get cute if that makes sense...).

If I seriously had to go to an interview that lasted all day, I probably would just shoot myself beforehand so I didn't have to go.

The idea of sitting all day at someplace just to have them tell you, "We'll keep your resume on file" makes me feel a little queezy. :)

I listen to the 8 mile's intro, go to the bathroom, pretend I'm eminem and then go in and try to pass a case interview.

Seriously, music always puts me in a groove, and the lyrics (if you have one chance, would seize it or let it slip) puts you in the shoes of a hungry hungry hippo,

You know, I was once interviewed by 8 people in four hours for an internship, and my approach was just to relax and be myself, and not to act too gung-ho. I just wanted the engineers on the team to like me. If I had a chance to bond over something nerdy with them, I did. It worked out well, and I got the job.

A month and a half later 3/4 of the team was laid off and our main product was moved off-shore. Good times.

Thats what I am scared of. I mean getting grilled for 8 hours and then getting nothing for your effort (other then hotel and gas money) would really suck. The last job that I got wasn't based on just an interviews. I hope the company is serious about hiring me and not just bringing me in.

At least you'll get a free lunch. Stick it to them.
