Is there any data out there showing how Yordan does against velocity? Like Berkman said last night, opposing pitchers should be attacking him hard with fastballs up and in to see if he can catch up with his long arms.
[Premium Post] Alvarez' last two home runs show that he has truly unique power. I have never seen a home run like what Alvarez hit yesterday. That was a LOW CHANGEUP and his weight was had shifted out front already. Hit bat speed was not fast, he just hit it squarely on the barrel. Under those circumstances 99.9% of players will not hit home runs. It's only two games in, but he's looking like he has Lance Berkman's ability to barrel up the ball, and Dave Parker or Ryan Howard's physical stature. Very exciting! GOOD DAY
I don't think publicly available minor league data is sufficient to answer this question. Though I would say, fastballs up are usually not called strikes against tall guys, but tall guys have to worry about low pitches. Umps aren't good enough at adjusting the zone for tall guys.
Looking at lineup construction when healthy... Who would be in favor of batting him 3rd or 4th... and how many in favor of batting him 5th? I ideally think he's most impactful batting ahead of a proven MVP candidate. Springer Bregman Altuve Brantley Alvarez Correa Gurriel Chirinos Reddick My only gripe is that we have two lefties batting b2b. You could theoretically flip Altuve and Brantley to create that split. Again, I just think Alvarez could benefit by being higher in the order.
Hard stuff inside until he can shorten his swing turn on it (he did this in AAA, btw). Slop down outside off the plate. Hard stuff up in the top of the zone.

No hits last night but the command of the strike zone is the real deal. Was busted up on hard fastballs though, will likely be how pitchers attack him from now on.
Yordan Alvarez presence in the batters box, it feels like Barry Bonds honestly, Pitchers are scared of him literally. The Strike Zone of Yordan at his age is beyond any hitter the Astros ever had, as a Rookie. Like J.R Richard at his Young age being a Dominant Fastball, Slider Pitcher.

No one is literally scared of Alvarez..... but some of them are going to be surprised at his reach when they leave a pitch on the very edge of the outer plate and it ends up in the stands.
First pitch to him in the Majors was a curveball in the dirt. They are certainly on alert when he is batting.
