Would you want the Astros to sign Giancarlo Stanton?

  1. Yes. NL and AL mvp on the same team

  2. No. Gotta use our $$$ to lock up the current core.

Except he's not. If he's the 2015 and 2016 Stanton, then he likely opts-in and you have a 10 year deal. You'd be betting the house that his 2017 career year is the real him and all the injuries and lesser years are not.

Yes. Do you think the warriors said they didn't want Durant cause they already won the championship without him? That would be dumb

seems like many who are voting yes are assuming that last year's Stanton is the one we would have for 3 years. You *must* consider his extreme volatility--both in performance and health--in projecting forward. Probably a very good hitter, but may have a down year. Possibly healthy, but has shown a propensity to get hurt for extended stretches.

Longer term, in the event that he falters at *any* time....we're on the hook for a lot of money over 10 years. Only if he's a healthy, ~6 WAR player for 3 years does he opt out and get more.

The NBA is a capped league, so you can pretty much know exactly how the finances are gonna play out. Plus NBA contracts are much shorter.

More important, Durant was a long established, injury free, MVP level player. Stanton is an injury prone player who only has played one season at an MVP level.

If one could say for sure that you would be getting 2017 Stanton for 3 years, you pull the trigger no questions asked.

You get rid of beltran and reddick but don't forget about the increase in the cost of other players in arbitration

It would also be dumb to not recognize that the financial systems in the NBA and MLB are completely different and lead to totally different outcomes.

You aren’t locking up those 5 up. The Astros are lucky to lock up three of them and will be asking the front office (with limited finances and no top draft picks) to replace the production of the players lost in free agency. That is a lot to hope for.

Just enjoy the next few years and the championship and possibly another one.

They wont be able to ignore the WS champions. But you can bet that the narrative will be how much better the Yankees are, especially if Stanton and Judge light it up early in the season.

I would think the short porch in right means Stanton tries to hit to all fields. The Yankees might've been the best place for him. If he tries to pull the ball every swing then he will regress.

No... Vegas makes its money by taking advantage of idiots.

Bunch of mouthbreathers will think "Stanton hits it far, Judge hits it even farther, Yankees took Astros to game 7....take my money please!!!"

    I just checked the odds....

    Yankees now the favorites (5-1)
    Astros 6-1

    Dodgers also 6-1.

Yankees were 8-1 before the trade.

i don't think/don't know if there was any interest on our side, but i'm curious what we would've offered in a potential trade. wish he would've stayed in the NL.
