Zion Williamson is slightly better than Carlos boozer imo.

Williamson might have some Rasheed Wallace in his game especially on defense.

I was thinking he is under constant physician supervision, it might be harder to get in game shape as being a cardio monster but losing weight should be easier in terms of diet and eating healthy. Losing weight is like 70% what you eat. Rehabbing is also working out he prob also lifted weights during rehab.

Yeah except he jumps higher than Barkley so it is more scary cuz when Zion lands with all that weight you never know what'll happen. Barkley was thin when he was jumping like Zion when he became the round mound of rebound he was mostly landbound or at least he wasn't jumping as high as Zion now.

Gordon Hayward did not have to jump on three 's during his rehab on broke ankle.

Which was one of the only weaknesses of one of the greatest players ever. I doubt Zion maintains his touch and will be lucky to be 35% career 3 point shooter.

Zion's walk freaks me out now -- once you see it you can't un-see it -- it's like he has one leg shorter than the other and never got shoes to correct it.

Man in just 2 years we got Zion, Ja, and Luka in our division. Meanwhile the East is just littered with trash.

I saw his walk pre-injury, definitely grotesque.

Haven't seen it post-injury, and he's allegedly reworked some of his body mechanics. Is his gait still that nightmarish?

Why especially on defense? Rasheed was damn good on defense. And he was a lot longer than Zion.

Hmmmm. Determining whether a player will be the G.O.A.T. based off of his very first game?

Sounds legit. Who needs all those years of stats and accomplishments? I mean, Michael had all of that, and there is STILL discussion on whether he was or not. One game should definitely supersede all that, right? Not really even one game...really 3 minutes. Yep, definitely sounds legit.

Oh, hahaha, makes even more sense then!

One of my sports pet peeves is everyone crowning someone something long before the discussion is even worth having. ;-) Zion may indeed be a great great player, for a long time. In ten years, we can maybe even have a reasonable discussion on how great.

FWIW, I put 'No', even though the phrasing of the question with 'could' opens it up to where just about anybody could be a 'yes'...
First, statistically, no. How many potential great players have we seen coming into the NBA? How many of them have panned out, much less hard a great career, much less entered into the G.O.A.T. conversation. In the last 30 years...1?

Second, his injury proclivity reduces the odds even further. If you're going to be GOAT, you need to play a long long time and be pretty healthy most of that time. Odds aren't looking great for Zion on this, regardless of how great he plays when he plays.

Finally, I think its unfair and unfortunate to put these expectations on a player who hasn't even played yet. He could have a great great career...and be considered a disappointment. That's not fair to him (and he sounds like the type that would be the first to tamp down the GOAT conversation anyway).

We can maybe have a discussion about how great he could be in ten years? In ten years his career will be likely be more than halfway over. Why take the fun out of sports? The only reason sports are exciting is because of the anticipation of a possible future outcome.

It doesn't matter about being right or reasonable, we can have fun just making predictions. If we could only just now talk about Harden's greatness this board would have been boring as hell for the past seven years.

He is definitely a super athlete. "speciman" but does not have the basketball IQ of a Jordan or Lebron. Notice I said Jordan then Lebron! ;)

Understand. I have no problem with people *talking* about it. Just like you can talk about what it would be like you won the lottery. There's value and fun in that...but a little premature for getting a contract on that big mansion. :)

The difference is when it goes from *talking* to * proclaiming*. That's making definitive statements for which there isn't even close to enough evidence for. ie, going from *could* to *will*.
