I think it was more about recruiting than anything else. Herman knows he's competing for the attention of 18-year-olds, not alumni like ourselves. Those kinds of amenities are needed to attract top talent.
Or you could just pay them for risking their lives and generating heaps of $$$ for the school instead of buying a bunch of TV'S.
We added another commitment for the 2018 class. Keondre Coburn, a 6'1" 329 pound defensive tackle from Houston Westfield. He's ranked close to the top 100 nationally.
Added another commitment today. Malcolm Epps, a TE from Dekaney High School. He is a bit of a raw prospect but definitely has the size for the position. 247 Sports has us listed as the #2 recruiting class in the nation, just ahead of Miami and Penn State.
Another big time pickup. Miami has 19 commits and Penn has 22 so they're filling up quick. We have 17 and OSU has 16 so it may come down to who has the biggest class. Makes the battle for Anthony Cook much more heated.
Ohio State currently has three 5 star players, while we only have 1 (Foster). We need Eagles (29th) and Sterns (30th) to get their 5th star, or even someone like Overshown. We need to beat out Ohio State for Anthony Cook and flip Max Wright from Texas A&M. If all of that happens, then I think we would be #1.
Warren (concussion) and Porter (shoulder) are expected to be back this week. But injuries mounting up big time with the team in general. OT Elijah Rodriguez (ankle surgery) was running at that starting RT position and looks like he'll be out for the season. Hoping Malcolm Roach's turf toe won't be a lingering issue.
I mean, I don't think the coaching staff is even putting Warren in the depth chart. He was hurt his freshman year, his sophomore year, last spring and now fall practice. You can say the confusion is different but it seems to be always something. You have to hope Porter is going to be ok. They said he could come back next week but that will be a lot of time that the freshmen are playing 1st string. Here is a camp update from this morning: I think the westside paint job is done:
Herman is releasing the depth chart next week but think we'll see Porter as the starter, maybe him and Warren as co-starters if Herman goes that route. But if healthy, I think we'll see Warren trout out with the first team against Maryland.
I live in LA, so obviously I'm going. I also have bets with half the people in my office. Now just need an I <3 VY shirt
