From todays insane public meeting in which he accidentally tore up 20 years of hardcoreGOPasaur gun nut policy: TRUMP: Or, Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court. Because that’s another system. A lot of times by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process. I like taking the guns early. Like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida. He had a lot of firearms. They saw everything. To go to court would have taken a long time. You could do exactly what you’re saying but take the guns first, go through due process second
this was in reference to temporary restraining orders vs. a criminal trial/conviction would still require a judge and evidence, and would be temporary with a rehearing required to keep it in place, but the idea is it could be done quickly if there is evidence of a threat this is what Trump means by "first", a way to neutralize the threat quickly while still keeping due process in place, until the matter can be adjudicated (same idea as a traditional restraining order)
Nice try. But in reality, here's what Trump argued: “The police saw that he was a problem, they didn’t take any guns away. Now that could have been policing, but they should have taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not.” ... “Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court, because that’s another system,” Trump said. “A lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early.” If they had a TRO, they would have had the right - that's not his concern at all. And this was talking about prior to any criminal activity, so there was no trial or conviction to go to court for.
This is pure gold. The left are speechless because they thought Trump was a right winger. The right wingers feel betrayed. Lefties still want to impeach him in favor of Mike "We will see abortions illegal in our lifetime" Pence.
That's the nature of a TRO (which don't exist for gun posession, but Trump is arguing they should). "They" means the gun owner, not the police. "The right" meaning the owners 2A rights, not the police's right to take away the guns. As in, "The police should have taken the guns away regardless of the person's 2A rights, via a TRO with probable cause and signed by a judge"
I think many really do not understand the full implication of this proposed suggestion. Essentially police can confiscate anyones weapon for no cause and no repercussion. I am not against this at all. As I have mentioned, gun enthusiast refuse to compromise and this is the result. Their rights are getting eroded.
Trump clearly states "“A lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early.” He is clearly stating take the guns before going to court. And again, he says, let the courts figure it out later.
Do you ever just want to walk up to a port-o-pottie and just dunk your head inside? Like, just to see what it FEELS like, man.
