But it soon found itself embroiled in controversy, with a number of students claiming they had been misled. Trump’s reputation as a real estate dynamo was an integral part of the initial sales pitch, as employees touted “The Trump Way.” “Is everything Donald Trump does the BEST?” a salesman would ask. “He wouldn’t put his name on this if it wasn’t right?” But while Trump had previously claimed he specifically picked his instructors, he admitted in depositions that he was not familiar with the names of any of those instructors and did not help to select them. Lawyers for Trump had argued to keep the documents secret after a request by The Washington Post to turn the documents over to the public. But Judge Gonzalo Curiel swatted their arguments down on Friday, asserting that the defense had not met the bar to keep the documents out of the public eye. Trump has launched a tirade against Curiel in the days before the release of the documents. He chided the judge as a “hater” and “very hostile” on the stump on Friday and has implied that he’s biased because he’s “Mexican.” Curiel is of Hispanic heritage but was born in Indiana.

Donald Trump is the walking, talking definition of a flim flam man, a con artist, a fellow who makes his living deceiving others. Now he has a huge canvas to work with, the United States of America. Something tells me that the scrutiny of a presidential contest is going to bring out all sorts of embarrassing things about Trump, some possibly illegal, much certainly immoral. A life littered with lies. It's so warped that our society can't talk about one topic. The lazy news media, with always "two sides of the story!" and two dumb talking heads has trained us that every issue is actually a competition. So we try to lay bare the flim flam man and people have to talk about a completely different issue with his opposing candidate. Sad times. On topic, I don't think the Trump University is a big deal. For profit education (and non-profit for that matter) is pretty amorphous. I think you can only really nail him or his university if they didn't provide the type of instructors promised or didn't relay the type of material promised. You can't go after them with "well, I didn't turn into a successful real estate baron." Or every university would be in big trouble. The student has to own a lot of the process; therein lies the misery/magic of education. This Trump University thing is best seen in the larger picture of him just plastering his name here and there for profit, without seeing projects through for true excellence. He hasn't associated the Trump brand with excellence (and the hard work, research, and effort that would take). He just associates the Trump brand with the talk, bluster, and image of excellence. Fascinating, if it wasn't a schtick that now threatened our entire country.
