Yeah, it sounds hyperbolic, but I don't think it is, TBH. It's the most dangerous internal thing to a democracy absent civil war. We've faced more dire external threats, and the Civil War was a whoooole lot worse, the Depression really did threaten our basic way of being, but this current BS is not good.
I think it has less do to with Trump's persuasive skills and more to do with more and more people attaching their entire identity to political beliefs thus admitting they were wrong discredits their entire identity. So in this case, Trump and his cult like status is just a symptom to the hyper partisanship this country is facing currently.
